Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Predicting the future

So what do you think we will see happening in the future?

Things like technology, science things like that.

PS the flying car will never happen
PPS This might be relevant: http://www.futuretimeline.net/

Re: Predicting the future

ps: dudes in the us invented a car that could 'hover' about an inch in the 60s iirc

The reason they haven't continued research is because it wouldn't be profitable for a long time, as the demand would be low, and they'd cost a lot to make and eat fuel.

Anyway, I imagine the world to become a lot more eco friendly. Ford(might be someone else, idk) invented a hybrid that's like 3/4 electric and 1/4 gas... like it was an electric fully functional car that used gas when it ran low on electricity. So basically electric cars are getting more and more usable, and I anticipate a fully functional electric car that can drive for as long as an average car can on a full tank of gas with just electricity.

Obv, internet and phones and crap will get more advanced, some company 'made' an ebook thing that was paper thin and fold-able, but haven't 'released' it.

In entertainment, I imagine that the 3DS will be a breakthrough, and everyone will start making stuff using the same/similar technology), eventually moving to console games, computers, and perhaps television. The 3D thing is easy to implement on a single player basis(it uses a camera to monitor eye movement or some-such), and i imagine it could easily be applied to computer interface easily(in the 3DS press conference, they mentioned that menus will appear to 'pop out' slightly, which could easily be added to a computer using the 3D eye tracking technology).

I approve of this thread~

3D seems to be in at the moment, i have a feeling though that in a couple of years that the majority of people will get sick of watching movies in 3D.

People will never get sick of 3D. There's just some kind of appeal to watching something "jump out" and that appeal is marketable.

I think that in the future, we'd get robots that do stuff for us, I also think we would get hoverboards that would go like 1-2 feet off the ground. Cool, right?

China will conquer the world, the white race will perish because of our low birth rate and islam will be the biggest religion in the world.

The china thing might happen in a different form. In the long run china would probably become more democratic and have greater economic influence.

I personally think 3d is just a fad that will pass in a few years.

Technology in the long term will have most of the emergent technologies (nanotechnology, biotechnology ect) see huge explosions of growth and advancement.

Also computing wise in the short term I have one word: Memristors. Those things will revolutionize computers.

Well, USA cannot tell china what to do anymore.
Both china and USA need each other now, but China will eventually grow bigger

I have a feeling that a 'retro' style might become popular after 3D is the norm.

Re: Predicting the future

x_x that link seems pretty false. The Earth goes through constant patterns that eventually wipe out species, or the planet it's self. People are becoming dumber, and if anything science is dieing in the next generations. And   eventually there will be no one smart enough to go to other planets / galaxies/ etc.

Besides people are already angry enough for spending taxes on whatever NASA does now. Let alone a whole galaxy exploration.

Re: Predicting the future

as much as space exploration is cool, it costs the economy alot.

And with the 3D thing, i too belive it will get more popular. I don't really like wating movies in 3D, and when i'm at the movies i always get distracted, i have to peep out of my glasses just to see how weird the screen looks without them lol (; . Also, when it is released into gaming, as much as it would be cool, i think the 3D effects will be too distracting to actually play the game.

The early stuff on that website seems to all be good approximations based on the speed of current research.
The US spends a lot of money on space exploration, and I'm sure it will continue at the same rate it is(so taxes won't rise dramatically at all[unless nasa gets cut since the current plan is to do lots of cuts and crap and space research isn't creating too many jobs nor is it changing the world{I mean, unless we find some sort of intelligent life or some sort of fast energy source, our space travels just further our knowledge of the universe, not much of our understanding of it}]).

Re: Predicting the future

I predict my mother will call me today sometime through 6-9. I just know it.

Anyways, the futuretimeline website scared me, honest to god. I worried for a bit before someone said it was bs. All the "Half man half machine" and "Polar caps melting" and stuff just freaked me out, although I was somewhat glad when it said something about immortality....

Re: Predicting the future

In France : No more internet.
We already have a governement firewall that don't care about justice. ( No judge can take a look to the list of banned sites, and even have nothing to say to it. )
Now they want to force everybody to have a spyware on their computer to see if they are "pirates" and "hackers" ( lol ).
And no more internet for you if you don't have the spyware.

Freedom ? Really ? Where ?
Frak this fascist governement. ²

( BTW, France helped Ben Ali && Moubarak by teaching their police forces how to "handle demonstrations". We can see the result in Egypt today with all the police's murders. Not to mention the plane full of gaz grenades that was supposed to go to tunisia the day Ben Ali left Tunisia, plane authorized to take off by the french governement. )

Oh the early years seem pretty accurate, I'm just unsure of inhabiting other planets. It really just depends what impact we're going to have on our own planet, and what our planet does. It's all unpredictable.

Re: Predicting the future

A bit of clarification on the link: It is just guesses that get more difficult to make the further along you go. As for the 10-30 year range stuff... It has a fair chance of happening.
