haha. That effect is really simple, and adds a lot to most things(though abusing it can cause headaches).

Duplicate the layer.

Increase brightness/contrast to what feels right.

Gaussion blur to whatever feels right.

And set the mode to overlay!.
You can add varying grey after the fact if the image is too bright.

Thanks for the tutorial but I feel the bloom takes away from the "grungy" feel of things.

Remade the image with a darken tone and added a shadow to Marcus. Tell me what you think.

if thats the case, then you can always try just increasing the contrast a bit.

Text is a bit hard to read there.

annnd, try blurring the shadow a bit.

I couldn't make the text work for some reason so I do know it is hard to read. I'm done editing for now so I'll just let anyone who wants to comment, comment now.
