Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

There was a gigantic earthquake in Japan today, and it measured a magnitude of 8.9. That is the 5th biggest earthquake in history! After that, there was a huge tsunami that hit Japan, and the tsunami is about to hit the west coast of the U.S., (where I live) and lots of people are evacuating.

stay safe you and everyone
just wondering is singapore on the 'tsunami hitlist'?
If it got hit, it wouldn't be a powerful wave at all. It would be a very weak wave.

The scale doesn´t stop at 9, the worlds most powerful was 9,7 or something!

The Richter scale doesn't stop at all. Everytime the number goes up 1, the earthquake is 10X powerful. (ex. a 5.0 is ten times more than a 4.0, and a 6.0 is ten times a 5.0)

Terrible stuff

;-; I'm pretty upset about what happened in Japan, because I'm basically in love with the country.
And by the way, the Richter scale was superceded by the Moment magnitude scale in the 1970's, according to wikipedia. [I looked it up way earlier.]

Official information from the United States Geological Survey on the earthquake. They put out tsunami warnings for California, Hawaii, and a few other areas.
Omg I keep hearing this about every hour...
Here is what I heard:
The Tsunami is 30 feet tall.
The Earthquake caused large fires and destroyed a powerplant.
The Tsunami hit Hawaii at 9:00 AM and moved toward the West Coast.
Six foot waves in Hawaii. For some reason that doesn't sound too threatening to me. I always pictured tsunamis being like as tall as a skyscraper. I guess I'd never seen a real picture of one, so that was just one of those childhood images that stuck with me.
Yep.
I hope I don't die in California, and so sad for people who lived in Japan.
