Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

They never really were conscious, because they never were self aware. An unborn baby does have about the same amount of self awareness as a mushroom does. Someone with severe mental retardation is still self aware. I wouldn't consider it okay to kill them.
Are you going to start making women have every pregnancy possible because otherwise the egg that could become human will die? I hope not.
So if you stuck a mushroom in a woman's womb, it would turn into a self-aware mushroom after 9 months? No. Ask yourself - why? What makes a human embryo different from a mushroom? There is a HUGE difference between a fertilized egg (FERTILIZED being the key word, not unfertilized, so your last statement is not binding) and a mushroom. They're called "stem cells." I'm sure you've heard of them. They're specialized cells which indicate the significant potential for life, and a mushroom DOESN'T HAVE THEM. THAT'S what separates a fertilized egg from a mushroom. The potential for life. A mushroom will NEVER turn into a self-aware being. A fertilized human egg, on the other hand, most assuredly WILL. So if by now, you can't spot the difference between a fertilized egg and a mushroom, then there's no hope for you on this topic.
I know the difference, but it is irrelevant. Neither IS self aware. That is what matters. Someday there will be self aware artificial intelligence. Should that mean it's illegal to throw out a computer?

How is it irrelevant? If you place something with significant potential life and awareness on the same level as a mushroom, then your morals are seriously messed up. And don't bring artificial intelligence into this, because 1. the circumstances surrounding it would be much different than human intelligence and 2. the process of a computer becoming equipped with AI is COMPLETELY different from the process of a human embryo gaining self-awareness. The tools for my computer to become self-aware are nowhere to be found as of right now. We don't even know where to start. It's not like they're hiding somewhere in my hard drive and they just need to mature a little. They don't exist. So that was a horrible analogy.

Well I don't know what the author of this thread expected when he made a thread about political views. He has obviously never brought the subject up in real life!
BTW, shouldn't there be a debate forum on here, then? It seems like lots of threads are turning into debate threads. I don't feel like creating another username on another forum just to debate something started here.

This forum is for EE, not debating. That's why.

Obviously, this one isn't, since we're talking about politics right now. It isn't all about EE, and besides, you can have a debate about EE if you want. I just don't understand why debates are so frowned upon here.

Seriously, stop clogging up my topic.
