Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Can SOMEONE explain to me why the word "troll" is COMPLETELY misused every 2 seconds?! People are always saying things like "trolling my map" or "troller!" and IT'S ANNOYING!!! I try to explain to people what it means but they still misuse it!! http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/troll LOOK AT THIS AND REMEMBER HOW YOU HAVE BEEN USING THIS WORD
*rubs my eyes* That hurt.
What u sayin mate?
Seriously, the word troll is often used as the name of a evil monster, which then came to the interent to give the name troll to people who cause trouble and are nasty. You cannont troll on ee, you are greifing in ee, that is making trouble in multiplayer games. Trolling is on forums etc.
The definition "trolling" has received on the internet stems from the dictionary definition of fishing: you troll the line waiting for a bite: you do stupid/annoying stuff and wait for the people to "bite", aka be mad.
Coincidentally as treejoe said the noun stems from the age old idea of a nasty creature called a "troll". There are tons of words used wrongly on the internet, why specifically target this one?
tl:dr: it's internet pop culture, deal with it.
No u.

con·text
[kon-tekst] Show IPA
?noun
1.
the parts of a written or spoken statement that precede or follow a specific word or passage, usually influencing its meaning or effect: You have misinterpreted my remark because you took it out of context.
BUT:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted". While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, mass media uses troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."
The "trollface" sometimes used to indicate trolling.

wrong, trolling is not messing up a level, greifing is messing up a level
wrong, trolling is not messing up a level, greifing is messing up a level
An emotion can't be a verb. Trolling makes more sense than grief'ing, English wise.
Greifing is trolling multiplayer games, you are casuing greif, when trolls just make people angry

"Grieving" makes people use most of the time.
