Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Rate my soon-to-be rig

I'm getting a new computer soon! How exciting! I ordered parts from newegg, and they should be here on Saturday or Sunday.
Anyway, rate it and compare it to yours, etc. etc. etc. I was on a $350 budget (and I went way above that), so keep that in mind.

After shipping, discounts, and promo codes, the total order amount came out to $434.32 (USD).

So, what do you think? Like I said, it'll be here either Saturday or Sunday, all that Newegg has alerted me of (having shipped) was the optical drive, the case, the monitor, and the DVI cable (which isn't listed here).

Re: Rate my soon-to-be rig

I highly recommend getting another motherboard. Motherboards with built-in GPUs are very low-end and you already have a separate GPU on your list. Plus, you have a Mid tower which also supports normal ATX sized motherboards: smaller->more heat production on smaller area. Instead I'd go with this one, same price but no useless on-board GPU.

If you can, go with 2x2GB or if you put down another 20 bucks 2x4GB on your memory (as a kit) so you can make use of dual channel mode for a small performance boost.

AMD is always a good choice for a budget PC so not a bad selection you've got there //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile Too bad you had to include the monitor in the price though //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Re: Rate my soon-to-be rig

Well, there's really no room to switch anything now, as it's already ordered. I don't see any problems with the onboard GPU, I'll just disable it (I'm pretty sure that's possible). I don't see how it being micro ATX will affect anything. Higher heat in a smaller area is obvious, since it's a smaller motherboard. It's not like it's going to produce more heat than the fans placed around the cases can handle, but this is my first time after all so I guess we'll just have to see.

The monitor and optical drive arrived today //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

EDIT: It's assembled! Just setting up win7

Macs are for blind people who are entertained by bright colors and bouncing icons, like children in school.

Sorry, I had to say that.

Re: Rate my soon-to-be rig

Minecraft keeps failing for me while on a server //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile
I may be wrong, but I think it's the CPU. Every time it's crashed, the CPU usage has been up in the 90s and 100%s, according to rainmeter. RAM always stays below 80 and I'm not sure about the GPU, but I'm 99% sure it's sufficient.
Do you think This is a good replacement (obviously a lot later, I'm not going to just up and replace something I just got)? I'll also be adding more RAM later, but that's beside the point. If you have anything else to suggest, my mobo is listed above. If you're too lazy to look at it to cross-check the specs of one you'd reccomend, it has to be an Athlon II, Phenom II, or sempron 100 series, socket AM3.

Also, nice flashy red reply box, jareky.

Re: Rate my soon-to-be rig

Indeed.
PC = Personal computer.
The correct term would be 'Windows X', where X is computer, machine, etc. You also seem to be leaving linux, chromium, etc. out of it.
Saying PC and meaning Windoes computer is about as dumb as using IE for anything other than a backup or tool to download other browsers. Maybe for a 'get viruses!' contest.

64 bit. What would the OS have to do with anything performance-wise anyway?

Burnett wrote:

Yes.

EDIT: Here's my full upgrade wishlist (which can be appended, I'll probably be getting a new mobo if needed)
It's public
The speakers are because the stock speakers on the monitor are crap and the mouse is just because I feel like it.

Well, Minecraft has huge performance issues. Java is known to be very resource-consuming because of its purpose ( a ultimate multi-platform language that will work on almost anything - including washmachines, cars, etc ).
I've read people saying they can run Battlefield 3 in ultra setting and still get crashes in Minecraft. ( And I trust them )
There's a way to allocate more ram to Java though, but it doesn't really change anything, it gives you 5 more minutes before crashing. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

I have no problems except slight and occasional lag while in SP, though, so I must assume it comes from the extra load of recieving server info, instructions, etc. Increasing the "workforce" would no doubt fix (or at least patch) these problems, no? Am I missing something vital?

If you have 64-bit there are no issues but if you have 32-bit it has no use to have more than 4 gig of Ram. Since 32-bit can only handle 4 (3,8 or something like that) max

Oh and burnett, Alienware is   overpriced stuff

Alienware? Don't you mean overpriced pseudo-gaming machines? You get more value by buying individual components, I'm telling you. Pick your favorite factory-assembled computer's parts and look them up on newegg. It'll be cheaper 99% of the time, especially if you bundle certain components.

Re: Rate my soon-to-be rig

EDJ is right if you have 64 bit and running it with 4gb of ram its not at its best potential.
The os has every thing to do with it. Minecraft has difficult playing in win 7 because of driver issues. Look for updates or try to run it in xp mode. When did you get the game have you updated the game since you got it. Try this site for more info

http://hopealexander.hubpages.com/hub/M … g-Problems
@burnett: Alienware is junk now. They use to be good back in 95 but since computers have advanced so far its pointless to get it. You can get the same thing by calling most company or going to a local dealer to have a custom one made. You save a lot of $$$. Not to mention there owned by dell now which makes it even worst.

I was already over budget, I couldn't spare the money to get another 4gb stick. If you cared to read the thread, you'd see that I'm planning on getting another one.

It's not minecraft itself, though, just SMP and CMP.

Also, I found a couple new Mobos that would support more RAM and have generally better stuff. One's about twice as much as the other, but it's okay.

What do you think about them? Pick one.

BIOSTAR A870 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Im not trying to say spend more money. I am just trying to help you out. I am A+ certified. I am a bit out of practice do to the fact that i have a house payment and what not.(cant buy new toys to play with) Your build is nice and the price is not bad considering what you got. I think you can get away with what you got. Just need some os tweaking and if not some more ram. Did you try the link.
