Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

They plan on cloning furry elephants.

Scientist in Japan are trying to clone woolly mammoths and expect for a live woolly mammoth to exist in about 5 years.

What do you think about this? In my opinion it's a great idea.

I guess it's cool for scientists who want to do reasearch, but why the heck does the world need wooly mammoths?

Why does the world NOT need woolly mammoths?

We don't even know exactly what they do. It could be hazardous

I don't care if the thing breathes fire.

I want a real-life Jurassic park.

It's actually quite brilliant, they can only do this because of the full dead body of a mammoth; so cloning a T-Rex or something else would be difficult.

Re: They plan on cloning furry elephants.

There's always one major issue with this: even if they manage to produce a fully functional mammoth, they will need to successfully produce a LOT more mammoths from different "parents" in order for the species to survive as reproduction among the same family drastically reduces the chance of survival. So this news bulletin doesn't mean we'll have an entire species back in 5 years. Still, very interesting to see what science can do!

Re: They plan on cloning furry elephants.

Well, got more discussion here... anyways,

They should be able to. I mean, it would further science, and probably bring in more money to any zoos that might have them... Not to mention if this were successful, it may be possible to bring back animals that humans have extincted to try and help the environment.

The Scientist didn't say there will be hundreds of these lovable beasts in 5 years, but expect a live one to exist in 5 years. They said we'll be grandparents before we see herds of these things.

Haha, my post got removed, and it probably deserved it. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Anyway, they should definitely open up a theme park for them on an island in nowhere. That sounds super smart and definitely would not drive people away.

Bring back extinct species to eat it, take it's fur, horns and all that? I hope you're being sarcastic.

Really? Cloning a mammoth? What next, cloning an extinct species of raccoon?

Ooohhh so it's like bringing the extinct back to life. I wondered what Wholly Mammoth coats would be like.
