Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Wikipedia's Blackout

http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Eng … A_blackout

Wikipedia will have a blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA. More information on the page of the link.

"Today, the Wikipedia community announced its decision to black out the English-language Wikipedia for 24 hours, worldwide, beginning at 05:00 UTC on Wednesday, January 18"

Above quote provided for those who could not access the link due to blackout.

This only applies to the English Wikipedia, at least at the moment.

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

Just when I thought my government couldn't get any stupider.

Think of it like a wildfire. Copyrighted material being the fire, you being the fuel. What they are doing is making it illegal for you to be a fuel. They want the perfect fuel to be the fuel.

Well I got news, when you start a fire you're burning everything. Not just what you want to get burned. When you start a fire, it will eventually be everywhere and accessible to everyone.

Don't want to burn everyone? Don't start a fire. Don't produce media if you don't want it to be shared.

Sharing is the foundation of the internet, why take it away?

So stupid!

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

Well, I can tell that only the English Wikipedia was shut down. All others aren´t (on the other languages it says that the English wikipedia was closed).
I think that is a good idea because the USA is going much too far with this...

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

Or just go to wikipedia, and when you see black-out, press "learn more" and you can use Wikipedia. Make print screen, because after 5 seconds it's goes to black-out.

No need. When you see the wikipedia page you are going to, and the page shows up for a split second before the blackout page, press Ctrl + S when the page is showing before the blackout page and then you can browse the page you are going to for however long you want.

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

You know you could all just block out javascript instead of fiddling around with ctrl+s and google translate and caches and whatever?

"Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way?"
"Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. You can also view Wikipedia normally by disabling JavaScript in your browser, as explained on this Technical FAQ page. Our purpose here isn't to make it completely impossible for people to read Wikipedia, and it's okay for you to circumvent the blackout. We just want to make sure you see our message."

I'm completely against this. These articles will help you guys understand a bit better, and make sure to sign the petition! All you need is an e-mail, name, and US zip code!

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

Gotta say, watwat, the SOAP bit was pretty amusing.
It seems like every entertaining site I try to go to wants to be all blacked out. ;-;
But I suppose that's what life would be with SOPA. So I can deal with it for one day.
It is getting on my nerves, though. It's everywhere, yes, we know it's a problem, and I know it's not going to pass so please just stop shoving petitions in my face.

But whoever thought SOPA was a good idea has probably never been on the internet before.

Re: Wikipedia's Blackout

I had to do researching on a project today, and most of us used Wikipedia, but I was pretty much the only one who knew how to bypass the blackout:

Stop the page from loading before it redirects you.

Lol, why blame Obama for the acts? As far as I know, Obama delayed it by not definitively pledging his support of it. The rest were pretty funny though. We should be able to go a day without Wikipedia.
