AKA The best game ever.

If you've never played:
It's been ported to tons of consoles and a few devices that weren't intended for gaming (Anyone have a TI-83/84 Plus graphing calc?). The story is amazing and the physics/feel of the game is some of the best I've seen. Pixel made this game over a five year period in his spare time and didn't release the game until it was as close to perfect as a game can get. There are tons of mods available for it. Some that are sequels/prequels and some that are addons of a sort. You start out in a small little cave with no weapons, 3 health, and no knowledge of who you are or what's going on. As you go through the game you discover more and more bits of the story until you know what just happened and what you have to do to stop the cute little bunny people from turning into murdering werewolf-rabbit things. It's got some really awesome replay value, and there are 3-4 different endings. The easiest ending is also the saddest one. The hardest is the best ending. By holding off on getting certain items or doing certain things you can end up changing the ending you get.

Discuss cave story in general. Mods, ports, how far you've progressed, which endings have you seen, etc.

Worst 2 endings. I'm replaying the game on my PSP and going for the best ending this time, but I've gotten distracted with a lot of mods. Comedy Story, A Lost Land, Jenka's Nightmare, and Mimiga Army.

Started playing yesterday, and I'm now in the Labyrinth. Just got to all-cure and now I have no idea how to beat this giant robot thing, because I don't know what to hit on it.

Monster X will drive back and forth, trying to go over you. Jump over it 3 times (you can touch the tops of the treads, just don't get run over), then the big middle part will open up. Jump between the treads, and destroy those four green circles while they fire at you. It will take a few tries, but then all the circles will be gone, and then the next stage begins. Same thing, jump over 3 times, then it will open up, but now you've got robot-seeking missiles shooting out. They're easy to destroy, but be sure to keep an eye on them as you're shooting Monster X, you'll have to jump over a few while you shoot. Blow the rest of them out of the air while Monster X tries to run you over. Reduce his health to 0, and his true form will be revealed after he blows up.

I want to get the original on my 3DS, but it's freaking expensive. Also, there's a Cave Story 2 (or 3D, forget which) that I don't wanna get until I've played the first.

EDIT: Just got it on my computer with an English translation, although it would've been cool to try and see how much of the Japanese I would've understood.

One of the mods I got for cave story (Comedy Story) Popped up with two language options the first time I opened it. I picked english, and I got an english menu. But the menu was as far as the translation went. I couldn't understand a word on the screen in the actual game. No lolz for me

Ah, I see. I can't get out of the first cave, because I keep dying at random times - say, like, when I walk up to a door, and when I attempt to enter the door.

I've heard about WTF Story, but I haven't tried it. When I first got into mods I could only use my PSP, so I only got ones that my PSP could play. I'll have to download that one. Jenka's Nightmare and A Lost Land are also really good ones. Right now I'm stuck on Jenka's Nightmare. Dang puppies...

Which version? Are you sure you aren't getting attacked by those dark blue blobs? Or maybe the bats? Maybe you clipped a spike.

I had just gotten the first gun and defeated (I think/hope) the four blue blobs in the "chamber" at the very top-right of the first cave. I went up to a red door and all of the sudden, -4 HP.

Oh. lol. That's not a glitch. Jump up near the door, but don't actually touch it. It's eye opens. BTW, that shouldn't have killed you. Did you get the health capsule? Or did you get hit by the blobbehs?

@a3: http://cavestory.org/ You have to download the translation AND the game, unless you're downloading one of the ports.

When I first played I jumped up there, tried to hit down but then the door opened it's eye and fried me with its MINDLAZORZ. So I shot it and it died. Then I walked over it's grave, like everyone else.

Wait wait wait. You mean to say someone's put out a version of Cave Story for Ti graphing calcs? You mean I've been playing Super Mario all these days in calculus class when I could have been playing cave story?

But yeah, Cave Story is a great game. I haven't played it in a few years now but I still remember a lot. I tried doing speedruns of hell like the ones on Youtube but I was never that good.

The game stopped saving for me and I dunno why. So I can't get very far...everytime I go to a save card and press yes for do you want to save it doesn't save at all...
