Cyber-Bullying.

In today's society, bullying is very common. With the technology today, bullying can occur anywhere. I just thought I'd share some facts about cyber-bullying.

When someone uses the Internet to threaten someone or treat them in a negative way this is known as cyber bullying.
Nearly 42% of kids have been bullied online and almost one in four have had it happen more than once.

Among this percentage, being ignored and disrespected were the most common forms of cyber bullying.

Nine out of ten middle school students have had their feelings hurt online.

About 75% have visited a Web site bashing another student.

Four out of ten middle school students have had their password(s) stolen and changed by a bully who then locked them out of their own account or sent communications posing as them.

About 21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mails.

The psychological and emotional outcomes of cyber bullying are similar to real-life bullying outcomes, except for the reality that with cyber bullying there is often no escape. School ends at 3 p.m., while the Internet is available all the time.

The primary cyber bullying location where victimizing occurs, at 56%, is in chat rooms.

Girls are about twice as likely as boys to be victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying.

About 58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than four out of ten say it has happened more than once.

Cyber bullying has increased in recent years. In a national survey of 10-17 year olds, twice as many children indicated they had been victims and perpetrators.
Cyber bullying can take many forms:

Sending mean messages or threats to a person's email account or cell phone
Spreading rumors online or through texts
Posting hurtful or threatening messages on social networking sites or web pages
Stealing a person's account information to break into their account and send damaging messages
Pretending to be someone else online to hurt another person
Taking unflattering pictures of a person and spreading them through cell phones or the Internet
Sexting, or circulating sexually suggestive pictures or messages about a person

Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs.

BULLYING:

Each day 160,000 students miss school for fear of being bullied.

100,000 students carry a gun to school.
Bullying and Cyber-Bullying are very serious matters. It's important to remember that any form of bullying can lead to suicide.

NO ONE DESERVES TO BE BULLIED.

The next time you're going to say something that could possibly hurt another person, please think about the effect your words will have on that person.

Thanks, and have a good day!:P:D:)

If you dislike anything about this post, do not reply to it. It's that simple...

This isn't lag, because everytime I check there is another new topic. Please, I know cyber-bullying is bad but stop spamming it.

It was lag.

This one was made 6 seconds before the other one and the last one was 3 seconds after the second one.

Well I don't know about America, but in Canada this kind of stuff stops at around grade 6. At least in the area I live in. If you are caught bullying or doing other mean things your reputation gets hurt really bad, no one dares try it //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

I don't know why it did that. I did a preview. and then I added something different to it because when I hit the bold key it didn't bold properly. Sorry about that.

*Edit. I have deleted the other two. I didn't post it three times. I am lagging badly. It takes 30 seconds to delete just one of the threads.

Canadians are so nice. Here in the U.S., kids are completely vicious towards each other. It is quite sad. They lack the caring quality

Something with lag. I did not intentionally post it three times. The other 2 have been deleted.

Sorry, it was lag. Don't know why it did that. The other 2 have been deleted.

Re: Cyber-Bullying.

I once had a thing about cyber bullying in History in 8th grade, and apparently swearing like a sailor is a sign.
Anyway, I don't even understand how bullying works. I'm on the internet during all my freetime, and I've been called a ****, a ****, a trampocalypse, a skank, a ****, a ****, and a plethora of other things, yet I find that I don't care. It doesn't get to me at all. I know I'm not any of those things. 'Cept maybe a ****, but still.

Although, perhaps I don't understand it because it isn't that prevalent at my school. Okay, yes it is, but I'm very rarely the target, and even then it doesn't bother me.

So... why does it have the effect it does on people?

I think there could be many factors as to why it has a greater effect on some people. You may be more mentally tough than others, more confident maybe. I don't think that if someone calls you a mean name that you just pull the plug on your life. I think it's more of harassment. Repeated harassment is what causes people to commit suicide. The person may feel like there is no escape. Bullying is different to everyone I guess.

Re: Cyber-Bullying.

@Zoey Same here. I don't really see why people care if someone on the internet says something. If they have nothing better to do than insult people over the internet, then their insult is probably more true about themself.

The thing is, at my school, all the people who think they're cool and on top of everyone actually have the least friends and everybody is constantly laughing at them. They just don't notice somehow.

Nice plagiarism.

If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. That's all I have to say on this subject.

Regardless of whether you're joking or not, you obviously don't know how serious bullying is. Oh and by the way - I'm a girl, so I can't be gay. And I'm so not fat. Wishing death upon others? Makes sense a bully would attack a post about cyber-bullying awareness. If you'd like to think of yourself as cool, then I guess you can do that. And ride away on your swag-mobile.

It is not plagiarism. No where in the post did I say I pulled all that info. out of my brain. I am using it for an educational purpose. No offense, but you went out and looked for the website I used, and you got nothing out of the information given? This is supposed to inform people how serious bullying is - so don't give me this plagiarism crap. I didn't claim the information as mine. Stop making a big deal over something so small.

My thoughts exactly. Plagiarism is one of those things you'd need to look up to perfectly understand.

Re: Cyber-Bullying.

The concept of being bullied online is an unusual one for me.   While I'm aware, of course, that sometimes it cannot be avoided, the internet has something which the 'real world' does not.   That thing, is called a block button.

If someone is being mean to me on MSN?   I can block them.   I see a message on a forum I don't like?   I can block them, or failing that, I can simply identify who it's from and ignore them myself.   I can avoid websites, apply filters, do a wide variety of things that in a great deal of cases will nullify the efforts of all but the most determined.

Of course, these things are no excuse to try and bully someone, and it's just as bad as doing it to someone in person.   I should not have to do those things and should be able to exist without needing to, but they do make it a lot harder for one person to achieve anything against me.

Are you trying to tell me that by ignoring someone online, I'm bullying them?   Or by showing them disrespect?   Does no one else see that as incredibly stupid?   Just how soft are we these days?

^this. SO MUCH. Cyber bullying = no effect on my life

Each day 160,000 students miss school for fear of being bullied.

Actually, those are true facts. That's why bullying is so serious.

Failure to give credit either parenthetically, directly or formally means you credit it as your own.

The irony just slapped me in the face so hard I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

Furthermore, I gave my equally serious retaliation; did you bother to read it or were you too hyped up about my first two words to realize that we're talking about cyber-bullying?

Also, I regret to inform you that these facts are over 8 years old. That was when Myspace was more popular than Youtube and Twitter combined. And the same website that has provided these disturbingly inaccurate facts also performed a study in 2010 measuring self-esteem: they have come to the conclusion that people who are cyber-bullied have a 12% decrease in self-esteem. The poor things!

Re: Cyber-Bullying.

Why would I care what someone says something to me mean? They don't know me. I don't care what they think about me.

Cyber-bullying isn't serious AT ALL. Sure its common, Thats for sure. But it is NOT something to worry about!

Maybe you should learn what plagiarism is before defending yourself.

And congrats on plagiarising.
