Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

Not saying that it's tragic.   Not even surprising, really.   Just letting people know that a celebrity died.

Don't take this as a personal attack on you, please. It's not, this is just my opinion.

Then why don't we let everyone know about the deaths of the thousands of people that die daily, or the hundreds that die every hour, or even every minute? Why should we know about her death but not everyone else's as well?

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

Because, do you know of everyone else?   Have you heard of the Jones family that just got killed by a drunk driver?   No.   It is extremely sad, of course, but not newsworthy or anything.   Now, if Mariah Carey were to die, that's newsworthy, because millions of people know of her.

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

Yes, I suppose I get what you're saying. But what makes Mariah Carrey newsworthy as opposed to the Jones Family? Because more people know her? I think it's a bit double-standard-y to report specific deaths by name, and then they say things like "Cruise ship crashes, thousands die". Do they not deserve to be mentioned by their name simply because they weren't as popular? What about the deaths that aren't reported? What about them?

Because they had made a name for themselves before they passed which is what life is about. Not saying I agree with it, but that's what many people see it as. If a homeless man were to pass today, (..Which I'm sure somewhere there has...) Everyone would live there life normally. If, Obama, who is president of the United States were to somehow get into some sort of accident, It would be all over the place.

It's because many people know those specific deceased for what they have done and accomplished, That's why it would matter more than   some lowly drug-addict.

Eeeww, you're reminding me of TakoMan02...

Well I'm not being harsh.. But why would random people want to that random people, who they don't even know died?

Also Jad.. You're arguing about why we don't hear about other peoples death by name? And you have not even said R.I.P to a famous person.. Having said that none of you had, you're all busy arguing and forgetting the main topic reason.
R.I.P Whitney Houston

(P.S Jad my neighbour John died recently.)

I don't have to announce it publicly to be sad about it.
I'm saying either mention all or mention none. Don't prioritize deaths.

Yes.

No.

I'm not talking about "Everyone should be sad" vs. "Everyone should not care", I'm saying that we shouldn't treat the death of anyone as more important or tragic than that of anyone else. If you want to be sad about one death and not about another, be my guest, but don't go around pretending that the death of any person is more important or more sad than the death of anything else. I gurantee if my grandfather died I'd be sad but most of you wouldn't give two crap. I don't care about that, I'm just trying to say it's not right for me to expect you to take more notice of his death than the death of the other thousands that die daily.

Whitney Houston, A celebrity, uses drugs. What a news headline.

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

Well, you're implying that a "lowly drug addict" deserves no mention of death or mourning over his/her death, when Whitney Houston did drugs herself. Does that not make her a "lowly drug-addict"?

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

Like someone (forgot who) said, the fact that she was elevate herself to superstar status is what makes it newsworthy.

And why didn't you do anything like this on my old Winehouse topic?

And when the hell did you become a mod?

I don't know when, but I first heard about it when I logged on today.

I don't seem to recall a Winehouse topic.

JEC: There's a difference between being more sad and something being newsworthy.

I don't think any of us here are actually more sad (unless she was anyone's idol), just more intrigued really.

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

I would actually be more sad if someone else died, seeing as (if the OD rumors are true) she brought this upon herself.

Re: Whitney Houston Has Died

I never heard of her until she died... W/e doesn't seem like the cause is on this topic yet:

She took too many prescription drugs (Zantex) and slipped and drowned in her bathtub.
