Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Languages

So, I want to learn another language.
Well, to be precise, I want to learn another six languages.
German, Swedish, Japanese, Russian, French, and ASL.

Funnily enough, the German and Russian are fueled by my History class (USSR and Hitler bro), the Swedish by a few swedes I know, the French due to the fact that it's the only class offered in my school besides spanish, ASL because Shizune, usefulness, and my aunt, and Japanese because History. And Japan.

They all have their easy parts, with Japanese being the pronounciation and German being its closeness to English sort of and Swedish using pretty much the same symbols.
But they also have their hard parts with Japanese symbols and grammar, and Russian is just wtf and Swedish has some scary pronunciation.

My question to my fellow EEers are as follows:

How many languages do you speak? Don't use translators and claim you know it.

What languages, if you answered the above?

What languages do you want to know?

Also, I'd say feel free to break the language rule as long as you also post your message in English, but I just checked three times and the language rule isn't even there.

Re: Languages

I speak English. But I understand Spanish very well. I just have trouble pronouncing it, and speaking it in general. I could be a Spanish to English translator, but not a English to Spanish translator. Does that make sense?

I know some German, because my brothers dog is from Germany, and it only understands German. So If you ever want to train your dog in German, give me a call.

Re: Languages

I think I'm pretty damn good with Spanish.

It's also the only thing I want to know at all.

Honestly, I wont learn a language unless I need to know it. That's why I especially don't want to learn Latin. (I know, I know, root words. I don't care.) There are a lot of Spanish Speaking Immigrants in the US, and if I want Bad: them to mow my lawn properly Good: talk to them like a bro, I have to know their language.

I can do that.
ME GUSTA ( I LIKE )
NO HABLO INGLES (I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH )
NO HABLA ESPANOL ( I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH )
IR CORTAR EL CE'SPED ( GO MOW MY LAWN ) (?)

For best results, scream these at the top of your lungs while pointing accusingly at whoever you're speaking to.

Don't do it in Mexico city though, in case you want a death wish.

edit: oh dear god, when I was typing 'for best results...' I typed lawn instead of lungs. bwahaha

@Bimps, lol, watcha wanna know?

@Zoey: Translator for the Lawn one, I see. It's not exactly good. Translators always give you half-a$$ed translations.

And "GO MOW MY LAWN" while screaming at the top of your lawn. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

I am learning Spanish and Welsh in school. I know more Spanish than I do Welsh, even though I've been doing Welsh for about 7 years and Spanish for 1 and a half. But the language I know best is Jibberish.

Re: Languages

Swedish, my main language, English, of course, and I've been studying Spanish for about a year and a half (I'm not that good at Spanish yet, I don't know how fast you other people learn, but we're still stuck with learning basic verbs like "ir"). Oh, and the pronunciation in the Swedish language isn't really the hard thing if you want to learn the bit more advanced stuff, the spelling. The basic spelling is easy, but the advanced...That is messed up as... Well, I really don't know, it just doesn't make sense... And if I really would like to learn other languages, it would probably be Russian and Japanese.

Re: Languages

I'm speaking Swedish as my mothertongue, but besides that I have learnt English, Spanish, Latin, Danish and Norwegian. (Not the most fluent in Norwegian or Latin, but it works out)

I've gotten started on learning Italian, Romanian, Dutch and I will soon start my Japanese class.
Oh and I've started on Quenya as well.

I want to learn pretty much every language that I can.

So that racks up to 6 spoken languages and 5 languages that I have started on.
I'm probably going to start on Chinese as well.

The hard parts in Swedish with the pronounciation would probably be the Prosody, using the rhytm, the stress and intonation can be quite hard. The pitch accent can be a **** too.

I highly doubt Elvish is actually used as a language by people. You know how it was made? J.R.R. Tolkien made it up while fighting in WWI (Before his books).

EDIT: Wait, you're probably just making a joke that I am somehow failing to get, right? I hate it when people take my jokes seriously... Just in case, I'm gonna look up 'Quenya.'

EDIT 2: Well, Quenya is another word for Elvish, so I still can't tell is this is a joke or not, as I don't feel like clicking that Wikipedia link right there...

Re: Languages

Quenya is a fully developed language, even though it's not used by a group of people. There are alot of people who can speak it around the world. So it's not used as an everyday language, but if they would have wanted to they could talk in it.

There is even a wiki where everything is written in Quenya.

http://neo-quenya.wikia.com/wiki/Quendi

Here is also an full Quenya course for those interested in learning.

NOT for the weakhearted and those who won't take it seriously.

I think I misunderstood you, I thought you meant it was used by a group of people.

Although I did know many people did learn it and there are courses and such.
