Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I'm sure you've all heard about this, but some think the world will end om December 21, 2012. Apparently, the Mayan calendar, which is freakily accurate, ends on this date. According to the myth, the earth's gravity will be reversed. What I want to know is what do you think? True? Or Fake?
I encourage you to not flame/troll/spam this topic, it is not a joke. All trollers will be violently minus-repped.
Entirely, utterly, 100% fake. There is no question or debate. No uncertainty or leeway. It will not happen. It could never happen. Anyone claiming anything other than what I have said is completely wrong. Anyone that believes them is wrong. Anyone that gives it even a remote possibility of being true is wrong. All following people and posts will be forever wrong if they disagree with me.
And do you remember the hundreds of other times the world "ended"? Seriously, do you think the Mayans can make their calender go on forever?
Yes, I personally think it could never happen. They probably just ran out of room on the rock they were writing on.
My calendar ran out on December 31st last year. I told everyone the sky was going to fall, but it didn't happen.
Also, earth's gravity being reversed- what do you even mean by that? The earth gets negative mass/ antigravity? Because our planet isn't made of exotic matter >_>

How many times have people proved this false already and still some people in our dumb society think it's true?
A simple idiotic mistake: we have the Roman calender, the Mayans didn't. Therefore we have leap years, the Mayans didn't. This means this:
People are damn sheep, stop believing everything idiots tell you.
No u.

This.
Why should people believe the Mayans? Can they see into the future? Are they special? Are they aliens from another universe that owns a device used to see into the future? No, no, no and no.
Like Pikachu (Nou) said, the world should have ended 7 months ago. Has it ended? NO.
1. I think a super volcano will explode. I think it will kill people in the nearby countries and affect people all over the world, speading poisinous gases and the ash covering the sun. Although I will give you reasons why the end of the world wont happen.
2. The Mayan calendar doesn't have leap years, so it should have happened ages ago.
3. Nobody who investigates this stuff, that I know of, has said that it will happen.
4. Apparently its ment to have ended hundereds of times already.
5. We're already in hell, Justin Bieber is still alive.
Kthxbai.

pfft. you're completely wrong. everyone knows that on that day, aliens will abduct 99% of the population, put them in a giant volcano, and blast them with h bombs or something. the survivors will then be interrogated by the easter bunny on the location of the holy grail, bigfoot, the philosophers stone, the government hidden stegosauri, and where elvis presley has been hiding all these years. they will then proceed to open a portal to an alternate dimension and kill us with headcrabs.

People believe what they want to believe. Even if there are facts which completely sweeping away what they believe. You know how the we started living, the humanity? Some say a bearded guy called "God" or "Allah" or whatever your lord is called. Others think we first were monkeys, who tells us we were? Who tells us we are? We'll never know, you know why? Because everyone is convinced they are right and are not able to listen, understand and equalize. The humanity is dumb, some smarter then others, but still dumb, know why? Because if we wanted to know if there was such things as population on other worlds we would've already known it.
We won't ever know why the Mayan wrote the specific date they did, we won't ever know if they made calculation faults, we won't ever why we want to think that the earth must die at a specific time.
All we know is that we think we are smart, but we actually are dumb.
Don't take this as an offense if you're:
- a believer of anything
- an atheist
- a human
- a Mayan
- an Alien

The correct answer is science. You don't need to thank me.
As Twipply said, the answer is science. Nevertheless, the possibility of incorporating a "god" into this is entirely plausible.
We can prove that mankind developed through monkeys; even so, we can't prove that the one who created the universe was an omni-potent being. It could have created the universe and the earth, which later on developed in the process known as evolution. No assumptions should be made without correct proof.
Who will tell us that science is the answer? Science is based on nothing, based on air and H2O, what if all that didn't exist, what if is doesn't exist and we're just living a dream already?

I can vouch for this.

Because psuedo-philosophy entertains the masses.
There was a big wall of text here, but to avoid the occupiance of a huge amount of space I deleted it.
Both Twipply and Nou have made their points. So there is nothing to discuss, nothing to debate. It has already ended.

0_0 you're right! eez not, posseeble!
anyways, both of you are wrong. your idea lacks proof or logic, unlike mine.

To clarify: @Deetz
Where did you hear that? That's completely inaccurate. The Mayans didn't think the world would end, let alone that the Earth's gravity would be reversed! The Mayans thought that day would bring some sort of spiritual enlightenment, a positive rebirth. The Aztecs, on the other hand, thought the world would end on that day because of a huge, Earth-wide earthquake.
I don't know where you got your information, but you're dead wrong.
Edit: I really want to analyze Nailauri's terrible argument, but I'm too lazy. Maybe later

Maybe I just wan't well educated on this subject, but neither is the media. All media sources I've seen on this topic have said that the world wil end on 12/21/12. And usually, if all media sources are saying the same thing, I believe it. But you did your homework

Hm, I think I'm going to check into this later. It seems more interesting than I thought. Or maybe not.
If you're going to do that, analyze it in a pm instead, or create another topic. I already went to much offtopic, we shouldn't take it further. Though, they were not really arguments. I do not really know a lot about science, but what I tried to do was summarize what science is and stands for. Which is the building and organizing of knowledge made through testable explanations and predictions about the universe. With other words, the search for truth and logical explanations to everything. Pm me if you want to analyze it before I start to go offtopic again.

The media decided that Mayan = Aztec, and so Mayan Calendar = doomsday. I think the gravity theory probably came from Newton's doomsday theory (which takes place at a similar time); he never said what would cause it, but he's associated with gravity, and so people thought, "what the hell?"
As in what the hell let's make up this story, or what the hell is going on?
