Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

It takes skill for the people who are payed to come up with commercial ideas to get it completely opposite.

The point is "When you drive a Sonata, people think you know things that they don't."
...And that's it.
Don't see?
Let's break it down:
Person: Why would that person be driving a Sonata!? There's no obvious reason, so there has to be a deeper one! They must no something that I don't!
But as the commercial points out, they know nothing.
So, there is no reason whatsoever to buy a Sonata, is what the commercial is getting at.
Good job, Advertising Department!
That's completely untrue, that is not humor. My quote was what the guy at the end said. It's also the entire point the commercial is trying to get across.
What the commercial is trying to say is that the driver is up-to-date with the Sonata, which makes an assumption that the person without the Sonata isn't, which explains the "you know things that they don't" part. I'm pretty sure that's where the commercial was trying to get at.

But it's made clear that there isn't actually anthing about it. "I don't know..." the driver said.
My question is, why are the parking spaces surrounding the sonata empty? And why did the guy on the left go one way, but then turn around and go another?

They're implying that people think there's something special about the Sonata, when there really isn't. I've gotta agree with you, [name here], they're kinda knocking their own product in a way.
I hate tall signatures.

I think the guy is completely normal and so were his responses.
The entire commercial was irrational and didn't really do much to advertise their product, no, but like I said it's just meant to be a joke, not any kind of argument.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

There's no such thing as a commercial just for humor, they always try to get one point or another across.

Comedy show advert.

Comedy show advert.
You mean a commercial for something that uses a comedy show in its commercial (like Wheat Thins and Family Guy), or a fake commercial on a comedy show? Hopefully you mean the first, in which case, its saying one of the following:
1. Hey, you like this show and we like it too here at (company)
2. These characters like this product!
3. Our companies teamed up because we're both so awesome!
You over complicate everything, an advert for a funny movie/show/act will be just for humor, because that is it's goal...

You see, they're trying to make us think. When we think about it even after the commercial is over, the advertisement is stuck in your mind and you remember the car. It's making you remember that car so when you think about buying a car you put it in your options.
Yeah, kinda confusing.
Wow I literally just saw that commercial.
This one doesn't tell you not to buy it, but the product is an epic fail itself.

They make people want to buy their car by having a commercial that people actually want to pay attention to. You have to admit that this would grab your attention among many other commercials that are telling you that their product is the best.

Put flashing colors in it, duh
I don't think I even knew Sonatas existed prior to watching that commercial. What about the rest of you?
Muffin is correct, this is about making you aware of the car in the first place.
Putnamehere, i want to see you advertise buying beta for ee.
See if you can do better

LOL.
2 Major things here:
1. Just because I can't make an advertisement that is better (I can), doesn't mean that their advertisement is good. Their job is to make advertisements. That is what those people do.If what you said was true, then if there was some random person out in the middle of nowhere, and he made the worst mattress in the world, then every single other mattress everywhere in all of existence is good and worth it.
2. Here's my advertisement:
....and done.
There's just a link there, but it's still better than downgrading the product.
And as for the rest of you, that all would be true, except buying a car is a huge decision. Huge. You don't just buy something, or even look into it, just because you saw a commercial for it. If that were true, well, go watch some TV. At the commercial break, see if there are any commercials for cars. There should be at least 1, probably 2, just in that one break.
They meant to make it seem like the Sonata driver was just smart, but failed at it.
The real question is, why do you care.
Well, if you watch a car commercial, chances are it'll be humorous like the one we're discussing, or just some dude driving it. Then they show you the "super-low prices" at the end. Like the one at the top. That what makes you want to buy it. The humor is just to draw you in.

Oh jesus christ, do NOT start an argument with me about marketing.
If you really want to get into it:
Yes, you DO look into buying a car just because you heard about it (if you are actively thinking about buying a car). The reason being, there are a LOT of different cars out there, and even though a "best action" woudl be to do a systematic evaluation and all sorts of complex analysis, the plain fact is that most people have limited time and energy and tend to make a lot of mental shortcuts, even if they don't realize they do so.
One major shortcut is looking more into things that they automatically like. One reason for automatically liking something is being a little bit familiar with it; this is called a "fluency" effect. Although some research has shown that fluency effects may arise even without conscious consideration of the product (for example, typical car commercials that are so dull you never really pay attention), fluency effects will DEFINITELY arise if a commercial is odd enough for you to actively pay attention to it (eg this Sonata commercial).
What Muffin was talking about was an evoked set, that is, the set of options that comes to mind. From there, a consideration set will be formed, the set of options that will actively be considered for selection. The likelihood of moving from the evoked set to the consideration set is much greater if a fluency effect exists for a certain brand, such as Sonatas.
While car selection is indeed a major decision-making process, the plain fact is an individual won't bother looking up a car that doesn't interest them in some way. Having a car be familiar is a way to increase the likelihood that an individual will take the time to look it up and find out more.
Indeed, the car commercial is weird. So what? At this point, my only recollection of the commercial was that it was odd. After a while I'll even forget that, but the name Sonata will remain somewhat familiar, and the next time I see a Sonata commercial I will be able to connect it with the previous feeling of familiarity.
weird...
