What is the point in this?

I don't know if it will work on your computer, but on mine if I right click and press Inspect Element (Q) and then press 3D view you can tilt the page round, reverse it and see weird layers, My question is what is the point in this?

It's Ctrl+Shift+I -> 3D view in Firefox.

From the looks of it I guess that each layer is a div. I guess that it is intended to be used by developers to see how the divs of a webpage are nested.
Or, it could just be there because it's cool. Because it is.
