Opinions on competitive gaming?

Post your opinions on competitive gaming(offline or online video game tournaments, etc)
I guess I'm making this because I want to argue for/defend competitive gaming.

Well that IS semi racist, it's not considered a "sport" but it's highly popular in Korea and is considered a "sport" but technically isn't.

Competitive games are also known as electronic sports, so in a way you could call them sports.

Well better than competitive things in person cause you can't get physical, unless it's a really bad case where it does but mostly doesn't.

Whether or not it's really a 'sport' seems to be a semantics problem and is of little interest to me. I think competition makes a game a lot more interesting, and I enjoy watching pros play. A very different side of competitive gaming (probably not eSports, but whatever) is the speed running scene, which is fascinating and also a lot of fun.

I have my fair share of e-sports experience. World champion in Soldier of Fortune 2 once and Euro champion twice in 5v5 CTF. More recently I've won 2 championships in Guild Wars and I've been playing in the top there for about 5 years. It's great fun, the competitive atmosphere is always great (depending on your team of course; if it isn't, replace the team). I've made some money off of it but not to the extent that it was job worthy, considering the playing hours required to get to the top

I'm planning on doing the same with Guild Wars 2, although I don't like it as much as GW1, so I'll see how that goes.

How is that racist in any way? You're not making bad remarks about the Koreans or anything. It's just true: it's very very popular and tournaments and players are idols in Korea. It really is considered a sport there.

i find with most games without competition whats the point of playing? so i like online gameing as it gives a PvP to games that otherwise wouldnt have much of one if nay at all
