Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Annoying Misunderstandings.

Just anything you say to someone and they take it the completely opposite way. SHARE YOUR OWN!

Me:

This summer I'm taking a math course, so I can be a class ahead of most of my peers. I chose to have a tutor, because I'm not going to a goddamn summer school.

Adult: So, what are you doing this summer (Something that I get asked all the damn time)

Me: Well, I'm playing a lot of tennis and golf, and I'm being tutored in math.

Adult: Oh...

Me: No, I'm moving up a year, it's not that I need extra help.

Adult: Oh, I see (As if they don't believe me.)

So...annoying....I'm debating whether or not to mention it at all anymore.

Maybe say it another way? Instead of saying that you are being tutored in math, say that you are getting ahead in math.

Why do you care about what other people think about you? I know it's annoying, but just ignore them.

Muffinator99: When it's your parent that misunderstands, it's a different story.

@Nickolai: I do, but everytime there's always a subtle indication that I might be falling behind. I don't want to say straight up that I'm moving ahead because that makes me seem like a show-off. I don't know, maybe it's just me. :/

@Muffinator: Because I know the adult and I don't want to seem stupid to them. And it's not like they come up to me and say "you're dumb!" If they did I wouldn't care because they'd be idiotic.

@Aoitenshi: I'm pretty sure my parents know that I'm moving ahead. XD

When people say "So you DON'T want to do something?!", do you answer yes or no? So annoying :\

^Either way you answer, people will often interpret it as you not wanting to do it. Basically leading the witness, but even worse.

Just answer "I want to do something" or "I don't want to do something."

Re: Annoying Misunderstandings.

This happened to me just in the last month:

<Conversation about something>

"Well that's exactly what happens when you pressure someone into marrying you. I think it's better to just not get married at all. Who needs that much commitment, you know?"
(My basic argument, contracted because people interrupted me)

<Talking about how your wife could cheat on you>

<Talking about how marriage doesn't solve that problem at all>

<After a while he gets tired and just says "You have a lot to learn, bud. A lot to learn.">

Basically, I chose to ignore the fact your partner could cheat on you, because I don't think that's something that should be on your mind. He claims I'm just young and ignorant.

It's just a misunderstanding of priorities. What I place as a low priority (5/10), he thinks is a high priority (10/10), and that I've abandoned it completely (0/10). The end result is a personal attack - claiming I'm young and ignorant of life's lessons to be taught.

Attacks on intelligence is something I don't take well, that's the only reason I found it annoying.

Also, good job on the extracurricular math. I was going to do that, but then I found out it costed money. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Re: Annoying Misunderstandings.

Related story I feel like telling.

In third grade, somehow they got the idea that I should be placed a grade ahead in math. I'm good at math, and it's not like I couldn't handle it. It's not like 3rd grade math is even challenging for 3rd graders, but apparently I stood out. I was new to the school, so maybe they had their eye on me? Well, anyway I took 4th grade math in the room next door during our math period with the 4th grade class. It wasn't much harder.

So anyway, I continue doing math a grade ahead of the rest of my class despite awkward scheduling and the fact that I really shouldn't have been ahead of everyone else because of some dumb observation in 3rd grade. Still easy however, and I have an A+ in Algebra I in 6th grade, although I'm missing lots of science and history classes. 7th grade, second year of Algebra I (2 year course if you take it junior high, is it like that everywhere?), schedule works out so I can't even be in the Algebra I class.

So now I'm supposed to take Algebra I without even being in the actual class. It's me teaching myself from a book. I can't do that. I like to see stuff on the board. Can't keep up that way, so I go back to do first year Algebra I with the rest of my class, because the course they had me running along didn't really exist, and they were just playing it by ear with me. They never figured out how I was going to continue with my advanced placement, so I was pretty much screwed, unless we were gonna pay for a private tutor. At that point I was like, "screw it."

It was like one of those pay-to-continue games. "Here! Come play Advanced Math Adventure! Congratulations, you've reached level 7! The free trial is over! Just pay hundreds of dollars for a tutor to continue!"

So now I'm in 7th grade, taking a class I've already taken. Not only that, but I've missed out on a bunch of early history and science classes so I'm lacking knowledge in that department for the actual challenging classes I was taking that year. Oh, and I sucked at basic multiplication because I never took 3rd grade math. So I gained nothing, and now I've missed out on a bunch of important classes.

Now I'm all caught up in high school, but still.
