Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

On July 20, 2012, James Eagan Holmes opened fire during the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises (Batman) in Aurora, Colorado. He killed 12 people and injured 58 others. Holmes acted alone and was dressed in protective clothing. He entered the theater and set off tactical grenades, then opened fire on the theatergoers with multiple firearms. The attack has received worldwide media coverage, being one of the deadliest mass murders in contemporary United States history.
Holmes is obviously pretty mentally disturbed, dyeing his hair red recently and giving himself to police claiming to be the Joker (Batman's archnemesis). He had a profile on a site where you find one-night stands, so he probably didn't get much action. He had a "sophisticated" bomb inside his apartment (which was booby-trapped). Also addicted to Guitar Hero, which is kinda irrelevant.
tl;dr: A psycho shot 70 people in CO, killing 12. Horrible incident.
I'm interested to see what countries (if any) with respected news channels (I'm sure some don't) did or did not cover it. I know England did, cause they showed it here for some reason, as if to say "Look how far-reaching this is."
(Also, with this, Columbine, and other non-death things, Colorado is the #3 shithole in America, behind Florida (#1) and the rest of the South (#2).

Yah, it's pretty sad thing, all over the news.
I live in Chicago (holy ****), and we have crimes like these happen every once in a while, but when these things happen in small towns and quiet suburbs, they really take the world by storm.
Let's keep all the dead and injured, including their families, in our prayers, that something so tragic could happen in a place so well-loved.

Well, sometimes things like that need to happen.
I believe Warner Bros. has the right idead going, because even though they're cancelling all the batman overseas, it's to protect from copycats at theaters and such.
I will also not be watching 'The Dark Knight Rises' simply out of respect for those injured. No that TDKR is a bad thing, I just don't want to have to have joy out of something that others have fear out of.

I'd go if I was Elvis and had the theater all to myself.
This is going to follow my whole life. I was going to go on the premiere here in Iceland but changed my mind because of the attack. Not that I was afraid to die, I was in a too deep think about the attack. I wouldn't focus on the movie. This is my most anticipated movie of the year so far, and I was going to promise my friend I would go with him on the premiere, but sadly he had to hook up his own friends.
I'm sure the people in CO were great Batman fans and had been looking forward to the movie, for over 4 years. Not that non-Batman fans deserve it more, it's just that I know that we have something big in common. Rest in peace.

Argh. The news won't shut up about it.
Hey, are you saying that dying your hair red means you mentally insane?! (I'm saying this because the fact that he dyed his hair red is completely irrelevant)
Anyway, yeah, it's a terrible thing, and it really sucks. Some local guy was killed there while protecting his girlfriend.
Also, here's a video of it. Not the actual shooting, but outside the theater. here.
Uhh, you wanna know something weird? The fact that I've had the majority of this post typed for eight hours and never got around to posting it.

Yeah, heard about the Colorado shooting. The guy just wanted to have love.
On the serious side though, that was very insane of him to do that, just because he dropped out of a PhD class? Wow...

I believe when he said that, he was talking in reference that the guy dyed his hair red, and he said he was the Joker, meaning nothing against red-heads, simply that is part of his Joker appearance, he dyed his hair red, like the Joker himself.
I never even heard of this until I suggested to my friends that we go see the new Batman movie.
Obviously what happened is horrible, but you have to hand it to the guy- his strategy was amazing. I'd post my analysis, but then I'd basically be giving tips.
I live about an hour away from Aurora. It's tragic to hear this happened. Colorado is a really nice state, I don't want my home state to be known for this incident. That little bastard had to go and those 12 innocent people. Well, I hope this guy burns. In hell.
Frankly, the fact that people make a big deal of this, is embarrassing. Over 6000 people die every day in the US alone. But because 12 people were killed in a place nobody expects, its a big deal and everybody knows about it.
I saw on MSNBC information about all the people who died. Again, 6000 people die every day, but because these people died in an interesting an unexpected way, we have to be horrified and find out everything about it and learn all the details so we can be sad and feel deep sorrow for .2% of people who died that day in the United States.
If Holmes was a terrorist, I'd say he won big. Not because of the people who died, but because of all the people talking about it, and maybe even missing a movie because of it.

I could say so many things to that, but I'm going to hold back.

Finally some one said it. Thanks.

It's not because the people died.
It's the man who done it, and how crazy it was, that's why it is a big deal.

I'm definitely no batman expert or anything, but a quick google search (and having seen a really nice Joker cosplay on tumblr) shows that the Joker has green hair, not red. Maybe he got Ronald McDonald and the Joker confused or something. I don't know.

Don't kid yourself. Crazy people wander around doing stupid crap all the time; this one is interesting because 12 people died in an interesting way.

Yes, in an interesting way. When some guy gets killed in NYC few people care. Why? It happens all the time, in almost exactly the same way it happened that time. When twelve people get killed in Colorado by some amazingly strategic maniac a lot of people care. Why? Stuff like that never happens there, and the amazing strategy.
It's a big deal because it's such a shock, as opposed to the 6,000 other deaths that happen in very hackneyed ways.

A place that nobody expects? Dude, Aurora is definitely a place to expect it. It's Ghetto and filled with a new crime every day. This one was just a little more major.

Exactly, yesterday some boat in Africa capsized and about 150 people died, and yet since it was a freak accident, (as opposed to human-controlled) nobody really cares about it right now, since the media is just focusing in on every single detail about the Aurora shooting.
1000 POSTS FTW OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That pretty much sums it up of what I was going to say. Thanks.

We have discussed this.
Is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling someone is going to copy James very soon?

Thanks to the good ol' modern days and the era of gangsters and cussing language, I believe it is a yes.
