Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Some things I want to say...Whether or not everything in the bible is true doesn't matter. Christianity is a belief and so is believing in same-sex marriage being right or wrong, or whether or not anything is right or wrong. You can't force your opinions on others and should respect what they believe in. You may think it's wrong, but they probably think the same thing of you. Neither side is likely to admit that they are wrong in their beliefs.
It's not so much that he believes in Christianity, it's that he's letting some book tell him what's right and what's wrong. That's aggravating to me, and unfair to the homosexuals that are judged by what this book tells us to judge, not on their character.
I can't really argue with this, but as long as they don't say anything out loud, or involve religion in politics there shouldn't be a problem. You can try to tell someone otherwise to what they think, but if they refuse to listen then there's nothing you can do.
GKAbyss wrote:You can't force your opinions on others and should respect what they believe in.
Uh, this goes for both sides of the argument. If Christians can say what's right and what's wrong, I feel I also have the right to do that. Saying same-sex marriage is wrong isn't exactly respecting the beliefs of those who believe in equality, so why should everyone else respect Christians' beliefs? It would be a double standard if I wasn't allowed to say that they're wrong while they say that homosexuality is wrong.
That's my point, it goes for both sides. It has to stop somewhere, if you point out problems with them this will never end. Not all Christians do that, and saying that they're wrong is the same thing as what they're saying about homosexuality. Ignoring who's right or wrong, you are doing the same thing that they are.

well, I think it is wrong because yes, the bible told me so.
takoman02: Jesus said that the morality of the Old Testament is still valid. It is like saying, that because Jesus came to Earth to forgive us for our sins, did not mean that he was taking out the old laws of life. And, in the beginning, God made man, did he make another man for Adam? NO! He gave him a woman, Eve. here is also a link for you Takoman02: http://www.witnessfortheworld.org/homont.html.
Damn, I didn't know they brainwashed people this much.

What makes it sickening? Making a statement about my opinion.
homosexuality is out of peoples' control. plenty of christians end up being gay and there's nothing they can do about it. however, horrible people who claim to be christians (but clearly aren't) constantly say how they're horrible sinners, have no rights and will go to hell. they desperately do anything to change it but can't, and many people kill themselves out of despair because of these fundamentalist "christians". and why would anyone choose to be gay if all that would do is make them oppressed, insulted and looked down upon.

Well, I'll throw my 2 cents in.
I would like to say firstly that I think the president of Chick-Fil-A is stupid to be donating his money to anti-gay marriage. But I also think its stupid to donate his money to gay rights. Where does the money someone donates go in this situation anyway? To bribe the government? There are other things that actually need money for the cause, such as cancer, diabetes, etc. If I had a spare penny, I wouldn't donate it to gay rights, I would donate it to one of those.
I think that the Chick-Fil-A president has every right to have his opinion. Was it smart from a business stanpoint? No. But I think he has every right to start a business in Boston. In American, there is this thing called freedom. Not letting a business begin because of his beliefs is an invasion of the rights of the American people. He can believe what he wants, and can do whatever he wants with his money. And it's not really the business of any of the costumers what he does with his money.
One more thing. Boston has plenty of illegal businesses that they should be taking care of, and focusing on. But instead, God forbid they let a Chick-Fil-A in because It doesn't support their views.

I think we were talking about prune's and twipply's comments if you want names. But you calling his belief sickening wasn't helping either. We're talking about the flat out insults directed at the religion in general, not the homosexuality part.

I was hoping someone would question my post so I could explain, but nobody did. Here goes.
Chick Fil-A is delicious. I'm going to eat there unless something they do extremely offends me to the point of hatred towards them. I'll still be eating there.
Homosexuality is okay with me. You deserve to express your love as much as anyone else does. None of that "in the privacy of your own home" crap. Straight people don't have to do that, and not allowing homosexuals that right is just plain wrong.
This mayor has no right to prohibit the building of a Chick Fil-A in his town, though (because that's pretty much what he's doing). If he wants to defend what he believes in, that's okay with me. Do what you want with your beliefs. I understand he's been through a great struggle to watch the town get to where it is now. But hey, it's not like Chick Fil-A sends employees out in the streets to do some good 'ol ****-bashing. Never have I walked into the restaurant and had religiosity or anti-homosexuality thrown into my face, because it's just a restaurant. It's not a church or anything much religious at all. Yes, the owners are devout Catholics who believe homosexuality is wrong; I respect that. They have a right to their opinion, and yes, I understand that by allowing this store into Boston it'll allow people to support these anti-homosexuals. But really? Suggesting they don't build one? If your citizens want to hold strong to your ideals and not support Chick Fil-A, so be it. They don't have to shop there. They don't have to support crap. But strongly urging them to not build the store is on another level. He doesn't even want to allow his citizens the option to support this, and maybe it's something they want to support.
Tl;dr: Mayor doesn't want his citizens to support things he doesn't agree with.
EDIT: Our wordfilters annoy me.

everything i say here only refers to the christian fundamentalist view and treatment of homosexuals.

When ever I see "Chick-Fil-A" I read "Chick-ful-ah." Therefore, I can't take anything about it seriously.
Sadly, this means I'm relatively uninformed on the subject. However, if I understand the gist (without reading a single post in this topic, mind you), then I can say this: I'm pretty sure it's illegal to deny employment due to prejudice. As long as the dude abides by that law, and serves all customers, who cares what he thinks?
And i saw something about religion as I scrolled down... please don't. No bashing religious views of any kind, I CALL IT!

tl;dr version:
it's about the mayor of boston refusing to let chik-fil-a own a store in the city because the owner of CFA is anti-gay, and that **** the mayor off. debate ensues.

Thanks, but my only real confusion was the mayor's leverage. Does the chick-ful-ah guy ban customers, prospective employees, or something along those lines? Otherwise, the mayor doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Welcome to the internet.
And what if someone is gay on forumify? they see that "God gave adam a woman" crap and get offended. He could be insulting other people.

His point, I believe, was that people should get over it in either direction, not that they shouldn't say it. Assuming I understood.

Yes, expressing his opinions may have been a bad move and caused an uproar, but like JadElClemens said, I think Menino shouldn't have refused the opening of the Chick-Fil-A. The President's opinions have nothing to do with the restaurant's food or it's worker's opinions. They were solely his. I can see both sides of this.
I don't SUPPORT homosexuality, but I do NOT judge or criticize them.
I am like Buzzerbee. I do not judge, however, I do not support it.

OK what soccerfreak006 said is potentially offending, and he should not have said it. Instead of offending his religion you could have said it was offensive and or wrong. The point would get around much quicker and without harm.
"Welcome to the internet" isn't a reason what has been said. Soccerfreak006 and you have both offended other people and it could be avoided.
Post isn't finished I might finish it later tonight or tomorrow, then again I'll probably just make a new post rather than edit this one.

I am sorry for this offense. I am very strong in my beliefs. Oh and also, I am Soccerfreak006, not soccerstar006. You probably thought of me and Soccerstar123.
Edit: Supadorf24 asked me what I thought of gay rights, so I answered. Let's get back on topic. What do you guys think should happen?

Sorry about the mistake, I fixed it.
I think if Chick-Fil-A has a history of refusing employment due to views on same-sex marriage, then the mayor should have the power to refuse them, but if Chick-Fil-A stops/will stop there shouldn't be a problem.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm buying chicken, not campaigning against gays and lesbians, I'm just hungry, goddammit.

That's reasonable. Some of us feel the need to protect equality, that's all there is to it.

We don't care what he thinks. He has the right to believe whatever he wants. I am simply concerned what he does with our money, seeing how he's spent over 15 million dollars on anti-gay campaigns and things of the sort.
I even made that part bold in the OP, why doesn't anyone read it. ;_;
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I totally agree. There is nothing wrong with opinion, unless it affects someones life physically...
]As some of you know, I am against gay marriage. I find it against my religion. But I do know, the people have the right to get married gay. They have the right to, but they are taking it to far to make people support gay marriage. Like you have said, people go against your opinion, and you stop them for this? Notice how this is in the USA. And one of the main parts of our constitution is "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom of Expression". That is what I find bad, (besides in my opinion. In my opinion, gay marriage is wrong. But you get it) how the mayor is getting away with disobeying the constitution
So you dont want freedom of speech and expression, you want everyone just to go with the religion that you are going HERE to debate about
seriously soccer, talk about this crap in church with your preist or whatever
and also, do you think people are gay by choice? Do you think people say, "im going to like other boys/girls so i can get people mad at me and i can act like the other gender."
thats like saying you choose if your male or female
