Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Lol. I'll be laughing at the following for a few moments each:

Golf
Running
Gymnastics

What exactly is your definition of a sport? It needs changing.

Mostly running though. I have no idea why you think that that is not a sport (or might not be, whatever). Behind swimming, it is the most athletic thing possible.

Re: Sports That Aren't Sports and Debatable Sports

If you actually read, I never said that running and gymnastics weren't sports.   They're under the list of things that "...Aren't Often Thought Of As Sports But Are".   I said I wasn't sure about running just because everyone can do it, but after thinking more I'll take that back.   I'll also add swimming to the second list, as people are obviously divided over it.

Golf isn't a sport because it's just taking a stick and hitting a little ball over and over.   It might take some skill, but it's a hobby.   Not a sport.   Hell, minigolf is harder than regular golf.   (also golf is a racist, evil game but let's not delve into that)

Tennis isn't a sport because all it is is just hitting a ball over a net back and fourth with a partner.

That's different.   I'll add it to the Debatable Sports, though.

George Carlin on tennis: "Then you have tennis. Tennis is very trendy and very fruity, but it's not a sport. It's just a way to meet other trendy fruits. Technically, tennis is an advanced form a Ping-Pong. In fact, tennis is Ping-Pong played while standing on the table. Great concept, not a sport."

Using this definition, very few of the activities that you listed can't be considered sports. It only leaves Poker, Spelling, and Online Gaming... Unless you think swimming requires no physical exertion?

Lol, golf. Hitting it with a stick? Yea, tennis is hitting it with a stick too. So is croquet and even baseball. Are you going to try to claim that baseball isn't a sport either now?

Im assuming you've never played golf before considering you find mini golf harder, when golf contains the exact same concept (hint: its called the green and you putt on it) + driver and irons.

"Some skill". Golf is known as the hardest sport my dear.

Also, you haven't added surfing - The best sport ever.
Golf is a sport (I think). Maybe you're gettingconfused this other thing thats simular (forgot what its called).
Finnally, some of the "sort of sports" are a bit crazy - Arm wresseling, Spelling bee, ect.

I'm gonna stop reading this topic just because it seems like NO ONE can differentiate between the two lists.

I was being sarcastic in your response to how golf isn't a sport. I think tennis is a sport.

If you put tennis down on that list ANYWHERE I'm going to kill you.

EDIT: And just so you know:

Sport (or, in the United States, sports) is all forms of competitive physical activity which,[1] through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical fitness and provide entertainment to participants.[2] Hundreds of sports exist, from those requiring only two participants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals.

I really want to know what your definition is.

Now I agree that gold is a sport, but the hardest sport? No. Of course the travelgolf website would say so; it favors golf! I bet I could find websites for dozens of sports saying that their sport is the hardest. Obviously golf requires insane precision, but so do a lot of other sports.

Let's put them into the kiddie league. Mini golf and intramural soccer. Which is harder? Now the big league. The Masters and the World Cup. None of us can know for sure which is harder, unless you've actually played in both, but my money would be on the World Cup.

Re: Sports That Aren't Sports and Debatable Sports

I'll leave my opinions here.

Golf: I always thought of it as a sport. Golf is on a lot of sports games, such as Wii Sports for one.
NASCAR/Any racing: Not even foot racing?
Boating: I never heard of it as a sport, nor I think it's a sport.
Poker: It's just a game, I never heard of it as a sport, and I don't think it's a sport.
Cheerleading: It's just an activity--not a sport.
Pool: srsly!? I might go ahead and kill myself.
Arm Wrestling: Dunno. Haven't heard of it as a sport, either.
Spelling Bee: Obviously not a sport.
Darts: What the fudge!? It's a sport!
Bull Riding/Rodeo: Never head of it as a sport. I personally don't think it's a sport.
Competitive Eating: Never heard of it as a sport, nor I think it's a sport.
Curling: lolwut? It's a sport, obviously.
Fishing: Dunno.
Ice Dancing: Agreed.
Marathon Walking: Never heard of it.
Chess: Agreed. All it is a game.
Online Gaming: Dunno.
Hunting: Never heard of it as a sport.

Gymnastics: Dunno.
Bowling: YES. It is.
Table Tennis/Ping Pong: I thought it was one. It's on Wii Sports, so I think it is.
Figure Skating: lolwut? What is that, exactly?
Rhythm Gymnastics: Never heard of it. Dunno.
Dance: Dunno.
Running: I think it is.
Swimming: What you just read on the line above.

I'm just wondering: Is skiing a sport? 'cause xputnameherex said that sports need at least 2 people to play, and I thought skiing could be done with one person.

Sorry, it's hard to find an article about golf on a football website. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

When reffering to "hardest" I was aiming at hardest to learn. A sport isn't "difficult" after you've mastered it. You just keep practicing and get better and better.

Also, in terms of "hardest", I think we can agree that it is, of course, a complete opinion.

Shift wrote:

I'd have to disagree with you their.

If A 15 year old who has never played soccer before, tries to kick a ball for the first time, he might shank it yeah. But after 3 or 4 kicks, I'm sure he could manage to make decent contact.

If A 15 year old who has never played golf before, and tries to hit a ball for the first time, he would likely shank it. But then after 2 or 4 shot's he would STILL be shanking it. It can take month(s) of practice until you finally can consistently hit good shots.

Now compare the two, which is harder? I would think golf. I could agree that in putting, you may be able to get the hang of it fairly quickly.

In terms of actual work, soccer probably takes more energy, but that doesn't make it anymore difficult.

------

On a side note, (this applies to everyone) don't ever compare mini golf to regular golf. Mini golf just merely resembles the putting surface of regular golf, except with random obstacles.

Mini golf to putting, that's fine.

Running is not debatable, it is a full-on sport. So is swimming, as they are both olympic sports. As with gymnastics. Also ping pong and figure skating. If it's in the Olympics, it is with no doubt a sport. End of story. No further discussion.

Re: Sports That Aren't Sports and Debatable Sports

So dance, rhythm gymnastics, and table tennis/ping pong are debatable but golf, fishing, and hunting are considered nonsports? Golf, fishing and hunting (especially hunting) are definitely sports. Dancing? Ping Pong? Nope.

I think you're forgetting that, unlike golf, soccer is more than just hitting the ball once, unless your version of the game consists solely of PKs, making for a very un-soccer-like game. Go play a game against people who know what they're doing, and see if you still think it's easy.

Same goes for soccer, especially when you add the word "consistently."

Jaybm wrote:

Er, it kinda does. Do you think you'll still be playing your best after running nonstop for fifty minutes?

I thought about that, but, then, the same principle applies between intramural soccer and the World Cup, so...
