Rare diseases

Uncommon diseases, which I often find on Wikipedia, or see on television shows like "Mystery Diagnosis," usually have a rate like "1 in 10,000 people." if you consider the fact that there are so many different "rare diseases," though I don't know for sure, then either a very large portion of the population should have rare diseases, or the people who have them should have more than one.
I don't know how accurate the rates are.
I also don't know how many "rare diseases" there are, but I'm assuming that because of the variety of organisms like bacteria, and the number of ways the human body could malfunction:
auto-immune disorders virtually anywhere in the body
cancer anywhere in the body
errors in chromosomes
etc, I would think there are at least 1,000 diseases.
This would mean that if there are 1,000 diseases that affect one in 10,000 people, one in ten people should have one of these uncommon diseases.
I'd like to try to look something up about this, but I don't have time right now and wanted to post this :s

WAW 0.0 ;p now that i think of it, i always feel my heart on the right side... ;P oh well, atleast thats advantageous if someones tryibg to shoot you, then theyll just blow a hole through the left side of your chest!? thats nothing

Ebola is one of the rarest diseases and the grossest. It hasn't been seen since the 80's and came from apes who prolly got infected by bats. It makes your organs liquify and come out as a bloody mulch from your butt. And then you die. No known cure because the disease is so ridiculously rare.

i have this weird disease that makes me so awesome that it might kill me. also theres this one thing i saw on tv where some girl has some growth disorder that makes her 16 years old but shes still a toddler.

One that doesn't sound too gross, though: Rett syndrome aka cerebroatrophic hyperammonemia. The clinical features include small hands and feet and a deceleration of the rate of head growth (including microcephaly in some). Repetitive stereotyped hand movements, such as wringing and/or repeatedly putting hands into the mouth, are also noted. People with Rett syndrome are prone to gastrointestinal disorders and up to 80% have seizures. They typically have no verbal skills, and about 50% of individuals affected are not ambulatory. Scoliosis, growth failure, and constipation are very common and can be problematic.
