wikipedia wants donations

im sure we all use wikipedia. its the only thing that gets us through school. well apparently wikipedia is low on money, or else they wouldnt be asking for donations on every page. i only had 6 bucks to donate, but i think we should all donate a bit. go to any wikipedia page and you can donate there. we cant lose wikipedia.

Pfft. It's not like the owners of the site can't get a day job and keep wikipedia running. Plus, with anyone being able to edit the entries, it could be total garbage and anyone would just eat it all up. Not donating.

You clearly have no idea how much effort it requires to keep that stuff running. They have massive server racks costing a bucket load of money. Also, there are pretty strict guidelines so any garbage you add will be removed immediately. Claims also requires references to source making Wikipedia actually a pretty reliable source. Unfortunately because people are ignorant, like you and many teachers, they don't know what it's really like and copy what other people are saying about it and this myth stays alive.

The reason they're asking for donations is because they refuse to put advertisements on their website, which is a good thing in a way, but ads don't bother me much so they can add them imo.

Yea. Running the website. Isnt Wikipedia like the 5th Most Popular site in the world? They have no ads so this is the only way to get money, by running their yearly donation stuff.
