Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

If I eat applesauce that expires next year, I will survive the end.
A more serious response: if I replace all my skin cells with stuff I eat that expires next year, I won't die on December 21st, 2012.

The sad thing is that this isn't even a prediction the Mayans made. The Mayans had to stop working on the calendar because the civilization was dying, and the calendar had to stop on a specific day, there is no fading out. One day the guy who was working on it was told that he was urgently needed to help cure a disease with all the other scientists, so he dropped what he was doing because writing out a calendar centuries in the future wasn't very important. However they failed and all died and so the calendar was left like that. Naturally, the immediate idea people got from seeing that they left the calendar is that the world would explode. Because apparently some ancient chumps magically know what's going to happen on a cosmic scale centuries in the future, while our scientists who have chilled on the moon, made nuclear bombs and created vehicles that us win a race against sound know absolutely nothing about what's going to happen in a month even though the Earth has been around for 5.5 billion(I might be off) years and nothing bad has happened.
TLDR: The Mayans never said anything about the world ending and people give them way too much credit for being smart.
Not that I believe it at all, but it was actually a prediction. You know what happens on December 21st? The solstice. You know how you said he was a scientist? They paid attention to stuff like the solstice. Again, there's no basis for it at all, but it was a prediction (for something).
EDIT: Also, Scott Pilgrim ftw.

Because the fact that it is a solstice means that a prediction was made.

As I said, Mayans studied astronomy. It wasn't a coincidence.

I don't think you get what I'm saying. The fact that they knew the solstice was then isn't really related to whether they made a prediction or not.

You are correct in saying that it might have been a coincidence, but that is a small chance. I know that if I wanted to make a prediction of when the world would end, I'd relate it to something astronomical.

That's not even relevant. What krubby said was that they didn't even make a prediction. You said they did. Whether or not anything had something to do with the winter solstice has nothing to do with anything. They didn't make any prediction of the world ending, therefore they did not predict the world would end on the winter solstice.

...I said there was a prediction of something.
As far as we can tell, the Mayans were fond of astrology. Their calender happened to stop on the winter solstice. It probably meant something.
The end of the world has been predicted about 10 times. In 2000, 2004, 2010 I think, ETC. But the Mayans didn't count leap years. So the world was supposed to end months ago.
I REST MY CASE.

Sure I believe that world will end on Dec. 21st, 2012. Like it did many times before. [/sarcasm]
Got it? Everyone says world will end because the Maya calender ends. But, do you know what? They have another one.
The world's gonna end the exact way it did a hundred other times it ended. -___-
I swear do you even know how many predictions people made about the end of the world? Remember that "End of the world" scenario which was just a bunch of computers around the world acting up? Even history channel is scaring people! If they Really wanna scare people then why not just make a sequel to the 2012 movie!
Lol, I hope there are end of the world deals in stores.

One does not simply make a sequel to end of the world movie
has anyone genuinely seen or talked to anyone who actually believes it

Just because the Mayans didn't finish their calender because it was so far back then in the year 600s dosen't mean the idiots present-day didn't need to scare the crap out of everybody.
