Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Has anyone noticed just how bad channels like Discovery, History and National Geographic have become? I watched some really good TV on them since when I was 8 or so. But now they are full of shows that 'entertain' and not teach, today Discovery had a show on Star Trek behind the scenes. Does anyone here actually watch that crap?
Society must be circling the drain I guess.
First of all, I agree that the shows have become crap.
Second of all, society isn't circling the drain. These channel's good name is. That is all.
Yeah, but there has got to be a reason as to why they have suddenly gone in this direction. My guess would be a lack of viewers, so they have gone in the direction of gaining more viewers while 'satisfying' the intelligent fans with new channels such as Discovery Science. Which are often ignored.
If they are losing viewers then it is a sign something is going wrong with scientific interest in society, but maybe that is just in America.

Solution: don't watch TV.
It's not that hard...
There is just enough good stuff on to keep me watching TV, but the documentaries are letting me down so I'm gonna complain.
The Science channel isn't that bad, actually.
These channels are just becoming more and more friendly to the average Joe Schmo, which is a folly simply because, let's face it, it takes a very specific personality to like educational programs. They're trying to please people that don't want to be pleased and it's just draining the value.
This doesn't mean you are superior or the average person is inferior, it just means that different people like different things. Even in Utopia life is going to be that way, so you might as well get used to it.

Also, why is it that almost all of your posts are complaining about how decrepit something is? Can't you be positive? I'm starting to think you're incapable.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

EDITED: If you don't like these channels, just don't watch them. What's making you depressed is this need to look at some flickering screen that emits light. Do we all really need TV, the internet, Wii, Gameboy, and all of these desires to be happy? Do we really? Or are we just obsessed? Try making the effort to not use these demonic contraptions, and maybe your depression will be cured. Just try it.
Modern society is going down th drain -.-
As we all know, our modern generation circles around the internet, TV, and basically anything that has a flickering light emitting from it. As much as this disturbs me, I've come to accept these things and live with them, and started finding what I liked in them, as this is probably all this millennia has to offer. But I noticed recently tat even the little good things are starting to disappear! I watched Spongebob since Ripped Pants was first released ='D good timez! But now the script is so poor I wouldn't be surprised if the screenwriters were taking a crap as they came up with the "humor" ! Nitrome.com . . . I was there since when Chick Flick was a new game. Good times. ^_^ Now, they make these little "icons" or whatever and you play and strain your eyes to even see wtf is going on -.-
Also, I just realized that Spongebob and Nitrome are the only things that I was really there since the beginning with. I really don't know where what I'm typing is going with anymore, so I'm just going to stop now. I guess all I'm trying to say is that yeah, it's gotten pretty bad. If only I had a solution... then again, I have a feeling all you're going through is some temporary life-sucks depression thing treejoe4 , and I'm starting to feel this temporary life-sucks depression thing. I guess I should really stop saying things now, because I don't know what I'm saying maybe I'll just delete this post. It's kind of useless.. or maybe I'll give people a treatread if they highlight it. Yes, I think I'll do that.

You do know he isn't dead right?
R.I.P David Attenborough. Every goodman has the come to an end.
That's not funny.
Tako, I'm not saying I am superior, I am saying that these shows are below a the standard level of intelligence. Just because every has their opinion, doesn't mean they all of equal right.
If the Discovery Channel is gonna start making auction shows for viewers, it is stupid to say "Oh, it's just not your taste, don't watch."
American TV is letting me down man.

Hey, hey treejoe4, hey! Hey hey, hey!
Guess what?
...Honey Boo Boo.
HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE
Another reason why a nuclear holocaust is needed.
I don't watch TV because the shows make me stupid. I watch some of them and I'm like ****?
I watch Catfish sometimes, but that's about it. I much prefer to do my own thing.
Sometimes I feel like the more I try to fight against society, it's pointless in the end because there are two many ignorant people unwilling to change. For everyone one genuine person, there are a hundred selfish people out there who really don't give a damn.
I would just not watch tv and call it a day.
But you have to understand, that there actually is good stuff on TV like the Walking Dead or BBC documentaries etc.
I guess sometimes, I just don't really like committing myself to watching a show all the time. I mean for some shows that have been on a while, Like Dr. Who, I just don't have time to catch up.
I might watch the walking dead though, everyone I know raves about it.
And I might watch breaking bad over my summer vacation, my brother raves about that

It's sad, but unfortunately they have no choice but to be stupid or else not get sufficient ratings. Just be satisfied with the fact that they have enough dumb shows to still keep some smart ones, and that other channels like BBC and PBS still can also include intelligent shows such as Nova. Even if intelligent TV entirely dies out, there will still always be places to watch new science videos on the internet such as TED lectures. As for Honey Boo Boo, although the fact that it exists as a show is terrible, at least the reason why most people watch it is just to see HOW MUCH they hate that family.

Do you have access to BBC iPlayer? They have some pretty cool documentaries there. But I guess for some people that's on the internet; some people don't have access to iPlayer on TV.

I am British so I watch BBC programs, but it's the American documentary channels I am disappointed about.
Are there any good British cartoons?
I know American cartoons these days are worse than garbage dumps.
I don't even know if there are any British cartoons. Unless you just mean cartoons broadcasted in Britain. In that case, I guess there's Adventure Time, but not everyone likes that kind of thing.

Well some countries have cartoons unique to their own country. I've seen lots of people on Deviant Art talk about popular characters from Norway, Sweden, France etc.... that I've never heard of, but apparently are really popular.
Being an illustrator myself, I'm always open to trying new cartoon series. There aren't very many American cartoons that I like because they are mostly garbage. I guess my top fav three would be Spongebob, The Amazing Adventures of Gumball, and MLP:FiM.

When in doubt, watch Spongebob Squarepants. Call it for little kids, but I love watching the old episodes, very well-made for a children's show, and even the new episodes aren't that bad. I happen to be watching it now, and Spongebob just used the word "squalid". That's what I like about it, how the vocabulary is sometimes way too advanced for the target age group. Once again, call me immature, but I happen to like it and think that it'd be pretty hard to ruin it.
