Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Lol, well just don't tell anyone in the first place, and just do it.
Well in a sense you are right, but it's always better to get someone else's input because there could be a solution you're interested in but can't find.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

And there is something wrong with that!?
What is wrong with you people?!
Here's my thoughts.
Suicide is okay when....
1) you'll be in jail or some other institution for the forseeable future.
2) your life sucks so much, no money, you have nobody who cares about you (and I mean absolutely NOBODY), AND you have little to no chance of it getting better
Suicide is NOT okay when....
1) every other time
treejoe, read all the posts. No one can decide what someone do with his life.
Everyone should be free to decide if he want to live or die.

God, I tick all the boxes?
AHH there are so many quotes on the second page that I'd love to rip apart; why did I have to be absent for so long??

Believe it or not, suicidal people typically don't call the suicide prevention hotline. Why do you think that is? Maybe because they don't want generic life lessons from a total stranger? Calling suicide prevention in order to help somebody generally isn't a very good idea, in my opinion, for I believe it would aggravate him more. Perhaps he'll listen to reason and back down, but publicizing his inner turmoil would more likely result in his falling further into the abyss.
If the victim tells you about his pondering suicide, then he wants to talk to you. Contacting his family may be a good idea, but sending him off to a clinic isn't.

You don't.

You're logic would tear in society in half.
"He can do heroin if he wants to."
"That mother should kill herself and leave her children alone."
so locking someone in a room is help.
in the case of the mother, her mistake isn't kill herself, her mistake is don't find someone to take care of the children.

I am not talking about locking someone in a room.
If you truly think the way about that type of scenario, then I cannot help you. I give up on this topic, this topic has been one of the worst examples of ignorance on this forum.
You know, I have been reading up on this topic now, and I have to agree with Treejoe4.
Every person have the right to, and should live. Suicide is a horrible horrible thing because no person is useless. Sure, there is probably no bigger meaning to life, and yea everything we do is menial, but so what? People should live their lives to the fullest by being happy and helping others. We only have one live (and no, I'm not saying YOLO), and we should do what we can do the best we can.
My mom always told me, if all you amount to in life is being a garbage worker, then darn it, be the best dang garbage worker anyone has ever seen. Take your job with pride, because everyone is important.
I have been going through a bit of depression myself lately, though I have not contemplated suicide, here is how I see the world. I wake up, and things seem bleak. People can be stupid, awful, stubborn, idiotic, ignorant, whatever, ok? I know that I cannot change the entire world, and I know the the world does not revolve around me either, so instead of going out and yelling HEY LOSERS WAKE UP! Or going back to my dorm and doing something I might regret I say to myself, even though life is not perfect that is ok. It is the imperfections that give us something worth living for. Something to strive for and do.
And even though what we do may not matter a hundred million years from now, who cares? Life is not about being the best, life is about being the best you. If you are doing the best you can, and helping others too, than a life is never wasted.
This is one of my favorite comics about the topic of life and death, I hope it inspires you all:

^Yes. Yeeesssssss. It's amazing how he could weave those kinds of things into his comics.

Also, awesome C and H reference.
imagine that there is a playground, you can join it and enjoy it at will, but one thing: you can not stay there forever, and when you leave, you can not bring anything with you. Your memories about the playground will be 100% ruled out, the effects of adrenaline and other substances from your body will be completely drained, everything about the playground will be removed from you. I ask then, what is the difference between exit the park at 1 pm or at midnight?

Well, presuming their are other people, and presuming they are all enjoying themselves, then I'd say 11 hours worth of company and good times. Either way it won't matter if we are all going to leave eventually, so why not enjoy the fun while it lasts?
I may be a prick sometimes, but I am a very moral person. I do not think that any should kill themselves because they feel that life is short or useless.

You can enjoy it longer in the moment for what it's worth.
and what's the value to take it any longer, considering the loss of memory?

how can you say it ends like that?
if it does, why not enjoy it?
you can choose to stay and enjoy, or you can choose to leave, it's just two ways to the same end, the ones who choose to leave don't condemn anyone who choose to stay, so why people who choose to stay condemn them?

Well, that depend on who you ask since life value is subjective. In my personal opinion, even though I know that I wouldn't remember what happened, I would still enjoy it. Why? No one really knows what happens in the afterlife, I mean yes there are paranormal, religious, and scientific theories, but no one actually knows. What if beyond the realm of the living nothing awaits me except being eternally damned? I'd rather live every precious moment of life, because life is a wonderful thing.
People who are unhappy usually bring it on themselves, not medically speaking (because I'm not a doctor, nor well versed in the medical field).
There are two ways to live life-
"There are two ways to live, one is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is."
Albert Einstein
Would you rather spend your entire life thinking that everything just sucks, and everything will just suck more after you die, or living a life in which you are happy (aware that it is short and fading), but without worry of the unknown. Better to live as is there is no tomorrow, because if all you do is worry about what happens after, you forget about now. This is now, and people are living today. Instead of sulking, live! If your only happiness is to play guitar, then play guitar! Do something! But to waste your life is selfish, you who could have done wonderful thing, you who could have cure cancer, you who could have done something as simple as work as a retail worker, would be gone.
Life is menial, but not useless. Be happy.

that's great, you just choose to stay and enjoy
but how can this give you the right to decide about other person choice?

Well, dropping the playground metaphor, I don't see why there is any reason to leave. Why kill yourself when you have so much to live for? The world is a large and wondrous place full of beautiful people and cultures. I know it's not perfect, I know it will never be perfect, and I know that life is short and there is only so much a single person can do.
I think the part I don't understand is why, why would you want to leave. There is no good reason to commit suicide. When people think they are worthless, they are not worthless. Not everyone is going to grow up to be an Albert Einstein, but does that make them any less special? No, it does not.
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

P.S. I don't look at you any better or worse over what happened to your brother. I think it is an awful thing, and I do extend my condolences. I just want you to understand why I think suicide is wrong, and others as well so maybe we can stop it. I am off to bed now, I wish you well.

You still have no right to decide about other people's choice.

I'm through with this topic. I have said what I needed to say. Redhat, if you really think that it's ok for people to commit suicide, I recommend seeing a counselor because that is not ok.
