Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

You know, sometimes the way the internet is developing makes me sick. I can't make a Google search without being traced by the government, or having my search request and IP address be recorded, sold to third parties, and be exploited.
What makes me most disappointed is that alot of websites don't allow the use of Tor, an anonymous browser designed to protect your personal privacy. One of those websites includes this very forum. I feel violated by this website, since some of my previous accounts have been banned because I use Tor.
Everyday people are stripped of their rights and privacy on the internet.
Did you hear about PRISM?
PRISM is a clandestine national security electronic surveillance program operated by the United States National Security Agency (NSA) since 2007. PRISM is a government codename for a data collection effort known officially by the SIGAD US-984XN.
Basically, the United States government has been tracking us all for over 6 years. Its existence was leaked by Edward Snowden (God bless him).
I just want my privacy.
Is that too much to ask for, EE Forums?

If you want your privacy, take it. Just don't use a proxy. Simple.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

That's irrelevant.
There's plenty of private proxies around you could use.
Tor is blocked by many websites because a fairly large amount of people use it for spreading illegal content.

Am I the only one who kinda expected for everyone to be tracked wherever possible, I'm glad that the government is using the internet to their advantage.
If we go onto the web, how can you expect complete privacy?

Name one other reputable proxy other than Tor.
And besides, does it look like I'm using Tor to spread illegal content? I only use Tor for websites that seem skeptical.

I've always somewhat assumed this.
Does that make it okay that the government is tracking everything you click on?

Tell me, why does having the 'government' knowing your IP or that you use this website or what you searched for on Google yesterday matter to you?

There's bridge Tor relays. It should help you since a good deal of them aren't in any public listing.
I wouldn't want to suggest any well-known proxies because the majority of them are NSA-approved and encryption isn't an option, private details shouldn't be entrusted.
If you're just looking for anonymity, I think there's some ways of using a public SOCKS list in combination with a custom FF setup (i.e. one similar to Tor)

It's not all about the IP, it's also about the data that's tagged along with it.
People wanting their information to be logged because of the quite few cases it would help defend them, is extremely stupid.
The topic of this thread is kind of dodgy,
It's good to have anonymity, but you're not going to have 'Privacy' with Tor.
In the end the exit node gets it all, Tor is merely designed for anonymity - that's it.
A good legal way of having privacy is transferring private encryption keys through person.
Until then, people will be committing more nefarious options... until quantum-security comes around.

By the way Rick, if you play Everybody Edits... the server does log your IP in more ways than one.
It doesn't keep a list of all IPs (yet, that I know of).
There's currently 2 databases on EE that are dedicated to logging player data.
The rabbit hole goes deeper but, there's not much way to prevent it.
(Though in some cases EEProxy can block some of the data-logging funnily enough... not all though.)
I suggest staying away from Facebook, which will reveal your identity on EE, possibly more than one way.
ArmorGames EE login looks sketchy,
Chris thought he'd fixed a vulnerability, but I don't think he really has. Not worth taking the risk, all in all.
All in all, this shouldn't be too much of a bother unless in extreme cases.

Well, the government can log data on dodgy people and build a case against them, that's good. I'm not doing anything that would attract attention, so I'm not going to be targeted by the government.
If someone working for a government data logging company, "Hey, you're wasting your time here."

Yep, the government should know about what is going on, even if it is a link to a picture of a kitten.

You seem to think that the Government knows what's best for everyone. That isn't the case.
It isn't right for a government to take advantage of freedoms and privacy in order to obtain security.
I'm sure you would be thinking differently when you get busted for doing something and then having the
government pull out a log and start interrogating you for everything you've said or done in the past, regardless of whether it was a joke, or not.

That's completely correct. I don't care if its for matters of security or not. I shouldn't be stripped of my rights to online privacy... Despite what the government says, I don't believe it's just too seek out terrorists.
In my mind, I'm fine with the program as long as they continue to follow the rules they were founded upon, meaning they need to continue to receive warrants to investigate domestic information. My only concern is that they continue to keep the information they gather safe and out of others hands (Snowden). If the program were to be terminated for any reason, I'd hope that a replacement would take its place because what if the NSA isn't all bad... ever think of that?

They don't need warrants. They do it automatically, even if you're a good individual.
>My only concern is that they continue to keep the information they gather safe and out of others hands (Snowden)
The information isn't safe, lots of it has been leaked through all sorts of networks.
You cannot keep information safe when it's in the hands of a measly human.
Snowden should be the last person you'd worry about with the information, he stated in the video that he has no intent of harming the security of individuals - all he is doing is speaking the truth as he sees it.

Honestly, I haven't been following the topic very much and I probably shouldn't take sides. I will rethink my opinion on the subject but I still wonder if it's all bad.
I feel brainwashed by both sides telling me what is right/wrong.

You may think the NSA has limited its surveillance programs, but several companies around the world have agreed to send everything we do to the government. If's you've looked into PRISM, companies including Google, Yahoo, Skype, AOL, YouTube, Facebook, Paltalk, and Apple. In other words, anything and everything you do on these websites is traced by the government. Sure, we all know the NSA to be spying on us, but not to the extent where every Google search query, Facebook update, or Skype video chat, is logged and recorded by the government. It's sickening.
