Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Im thinking of getting a pokemon game but im not sure which one I should get...
Uhh, there are barely any Pokemon games for the Wii if not any... Also, I'd suggest upgrading to a better Wii U. Nintendo isn't going to keep making games for it.
Same goes for the DS -> 3DS, I always prefer newer games and newer consoles. (Yes, I'm talking to you genwunners. Get over it.)
But, all in all, my personal suggestion for the one you should get is to wait for Pokemon X and Y to come out on October 12, 2013 for the 3DS. As I said before, Nintendo no longer is going to make games for the DS.

It really depends if you've played Pokemon before, but if you're willing to wait, Pokemon X/Y comes out in October for 3ds.

I'd recommend the newer games for the DS/3DS
I think the best options are to wait for X/Y like Zoey2070 said, or to get Black or White. While Black 2 and White 2 are newer, the storyline between the first and second games are much closer to each other than other games.
An advantage to the newer games is the increased chance of playing with other people. I believe people who are just getting into Pokemon would be more likely to get the newer games, and people who have been playing Pokemon for a while, who still play it often, are likely to get a new game when it comes out.
I would not recommend getting a pokemon game for a non-handheld system because they usually have very different gameplay when compared to the handheld games. Though there are some that are similar for the Gamecube, Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and Colleseum. They are both useful in completing the pokedex, but to actually use them and transfer them to the newest games has a lot of requirements.
Gamcube controller ports, available on older Wii models and Gamecubes
Gameboy Advance (sp)/Gamecube connection cable
Gameboy Advance (sp)
DS (Lite)
While they can be useful in obtaining certain pokemon, it is simpler to get most of the newer games which now provide ways of obtaining some pokemon only obtainable on gamecube games.
For example, Heartgold and Soulsilver are new ways to get non-event Lugia and Ho-oh.
There are also online and in-person events for newer games, so getting a newer game before an older one allows you to get event pokemon while they are still available.
