Severe Weather

Severe thunderstorms might arrive here in Sacto.
http://blog.norcalweather.net/widesprea … -thursday/
WARM CONVEYOR PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD INLAND ACROSS CA
THIS EVENING BEFORE MID LEVEL CAA INTENSIFIES AFTER MIDNIGHT AND
FORCES THIS BAND OF ASCENT INTO THE GREAT BASIN.   FORECAST SOUNDINGS
SUGGEST LAPSE RATES WILL STEEPEN SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER 06Z WITH
SFC-6KM VALUES LIKELY EXCEEDING 7 C/KM BY THE END OF THE DAY1
PERIOD.   THUNDERSTORM PROBABILITIES SHOULD INCREASE TOWARD SUNRISE
ACROSS THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY AS SBCAPE VALUES INCREASE TO AROUND
200-400 J/KG.   WHILE THIS IS THE MINIMUM IN THE DIURNAL CYCLE SHEAR
PROFILES WOULD SEEM TO FAVOR WEAK STORM ROTATION.   THE GREATEST RISK
WITH THE STRONGEST UPDRAFTS SHOULD BE MARGINAL HAIL.
In other news, does anybody here have severe weather stuff they wanna share?

Re: Severe Weather

Some people have all the luck. I wanted a thunderstorm, but all we get here for the next few days in the middle of freaking tornado alley is snow. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue
Last week we had some crazy weather. There was snow, rain, thunder clouds, and clear sunshine all within an hour.

Re: Severe Weather

The thing is california is one of the least thunderstorm producers, with Washington being the state with least thunderstorms.
I haven't seen hail since 2010, so I'm very thrilled to stay up all night to observe this storm system.

Re: Severe Weather

I had a similar day last week D55, except we had rain, snow, sun, win, and hail. I live pretty far north, so where I live gets a lot of snow right? Well, last week when it got warm tons of snow melted and the entire campus was a mixture of tracts of ice and swampy puddles. Needless to say, walking around was not very fun. This morning it was about 10 degrees, and the wind was blowing so hard I kept getting snow in my eyes, snow being blown from the huge piles which have yet to melt, and it was hard to see where I was going. I can't wait for winter to be over.

Re: Severe Weather

My new PC burned out due to some distant thunderstorm yesterday. In fact, we've been getting thunderstorms for the last 3-4 days consistently, and it's pretty annoying. Partly because I can't even use that PC when that happens, huehue.
I can't see why people like thunderstorms so much. The only thing I think of is your house's electricity ending suddenly. Doesn't help that Brazil has been having a lot of blackouts and is probably one of the countries with the most lightning strikes (in persons too), and over the summer there are dozens of people getting killed by those in the news. I can't walk outside during a thunderstorm without worrying I may get schooled by Zeus.

I love their cloud structure. IMO it's the best cloud formation on Earth. They feel cool to look at as they tower from the low atmosphere into higher up. Not to mention thunderstorms grow in a specific way, when warm air gets shoved over colder air. It started with me liking tornadoes, but I always thought thunderstorms were flat clouds that somehow produced electricity, and learned now that they are tall puffy clouds.

In Illinois we get snow storms in the winter, and thunderstorms, high winds, and tornadoes the scattered throughout the rest of the seasons. Some people might find them exciting, but the thrill ends when there's major damage to your house and people are seriously injured.

Also, I'd like to share a very unsettling CEM: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tkruQZpQ2g8

Hurricanes are scary, but imagine being in the immediate path of a 2 mile wide tornado? I'd not know what to do.

Neither would I. Since Cali tornadoes are quite rare, we don't have the same types of house structures as those in, say, New York or Massachusetts. From what I know, most East Coast houses have basements as tornado/hurricane shelters. Most West Coast houses don't have those, since the main natural threat out here are earthquakes, and since they're quite unpredictable, it is hard to prepare to be completely safe/prepped for them.
Listening to the rain in SoCal is quite relieving, and, surprisingly, energetic. I'm not sure if the weekend rain was enough to relieve us of the drought, and I certainly love the rain because we get so little of it, so when it happens during school hours, I love to walk in the rain. No hood but certainly a sweater. Also, I rarely wear anything other than shorts because I'm hardly ever cold below the waist, so seeing me in pants is a rare sight, and since super-gluing the hole in my main shoes failed, I had to use a new pair of Converse. Not complaining, although I still luuurve my Nikes.
tl;dr: I love the rain when it comes and my body embraces it.

Re: Severe Weather

I never bother to check, my weather widget said only thunderstorms for my area, nothing worse.
In any case, I didn't hear any weather warnings about it, and if I did, I plugged my ears, closed my eyes, muted the TV, and curled up in a ball. Those weather warnings are the scariest things I've ever heard (yes I think it's dumb, don't judge).

Unlike the east California has been much warmer than usual. Spring trees started blooming flowers in mid-february.

I live in a tropical country, so I'd pick snowing over rain and thunder any day.

Re: Severe Weather

35 degree+ days lasting sometimes over a week with blackouts common in night (for those neighborhoods with bad power providers. who cant handle everyone using their air cons...)

And that's pretty much all we get that's "severe"

Re: Severe Weather

It's mild (25 ºC-ish on average) here, but last week we were getting 40 ºC and thunderstorms every single day.
I even got a sunstroke a few days ago, couldn't barely walk. Thankfully, the heat wave is going away.

Re: Severe Weather

The weather here isn't severe at all. All we get is rain, and occasionally thunder or hail. And we didn't get any snow this winter. It's all puddles and clouds.

Re: Severe Weather

The worst weather in recent memory was a couple of rainstorms in '08 or '09.
Are any of you guys scared of those weather warning things? They scare the (turdnugget) out of me.

We don't get thunderstorms often, here in the Central valley in north california.
