Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Movies with swearing can't be seen in theaters.
Swearing in public can result in fines
"And copies of books, CDs or films containing swearing can only be distributed in a sealed package labeled "Contains obscene language," a Kremlin statement said."

I'll be able to confirm/reject this in a couple of hours...
Edit: I confirm this, such a stupid law

Yet another reason not to visit Russia.

After I watched a few Youtube videos, isn't Russia almost a Grand Theft Auto game in real life?

Are they going to block youtube/any internet site with swearing...

It was in 20th century, it is still close to the game though

I like this. I think swearing is pointless and can be replaced with pretty much any other word.
I don't. I swear all the time, big deal. Freedom of speech!

Could take me a couple of days to confirm this, if the popular Russian youtube channel "100500" shuts down then your question would be confirmed.

Is "I do it because I can" really all there is to it for you?

So if I spilled something and I let slip an "F-bomb" should I get fined for it? What if I just bought something to eat and it fell on the floor and I sigh a "SOB". It's ridiculous to charge someone for using words which literally only have meaning insofar as we give them meaning. It's not like I swear at people, just when I'm complaining about mistakes I make or logical fallacies. Do I really need any other reason?

You don't know Russian people lol

Chill, dude. Your post made it seem like your only reason for swearing was basically because it wasn't illegal. You don't need any reason at all to swear, but it's nice to have one since it's offensive to a lot of people. I don't agree with Russia, but I don't like swearing, either. I'm more on board with what n1kf said. There are better words to be used. Words that can spread joy, like "That dirty sonofahamster" or "Shut your hamsterflipping mouth".

No, I don't know about Russian people or culture. That is the one history course my school doesn't offer. Swearing is so common in America, they even play it at the mall where little kids can here it. No one really gives a care lol.
@D55: Maybe it depends where you live. All my friends, even my professors, swear all the time. It's just becomes a regular part of my day. Where I live people are very liberal with language. Insulting someone is like giving someone a compliment. Maybe that's why I come off as so vain sometimes? It's just how I grew up lol.

I grew up and live in the ghetto. If you don't hear swearing at least every few seconds, then you're alone. I just don't swear and don't understand why what used to cause "Teacher, Sharqueniesha said the A-word!" is now completely impotent.

I theorize that swearing and crying are surprisingly similar, yet one is frowned upon my society and one is accepted. Both of the above are a raw expression of emotion, anger and sadness respectively. I would argue that swearing should be accepted as it provides a non violent way to express ones anger in a rapid fashion.
The above is in now way advocative of gratuitous swearing, just an advocate of the benefits of swearing.
I do wonder how words become classed as "swear" words, how the colloquial verb to have sexual intercourse is a "swear" word yet calling someone a derogatory term such as "fat" is acceptable.
More ontopic, I don't advocate censorship in most ways - the exceptions being very extreme of course - and Russia's move to censor words can only lead it onto the path of oppression.

Well swearing just seems to be so prevalent in my community, that instead of trying to stop it people just embrace it. Swearing doesn't hold the same power as it used to. It's becoming common language. People can either keep fighting it, or just choose to accept the fact that swearing is normal. Like I said, it's not such a bad thing anymore because the context has changed. At least for me, I used to be vehemently against swearing, but now I can't help letting a "F-bomb" slip here and there. Most of my professors swear too, especially my Literary Theory professor. He goes out of his way to swear just to prove how pointless it is to try and be so arbitrary around certain words.
If certain words weren't censored on this forum you can bet I'd be swearing all the time
Here's a question: Why using a certain curse word when you can use "dung?" They have the same definition, meaning they can be used in the same situation. What makes the curse word more special than "dung," "poop," or any other word for it?

Because dung and poop sound so juvenile. "Crap" is a better substitute. And some phrases with swearing have no non-swearing equivalent. Like bada**. You can't say that without the swear word unless you don't mind sounding ridiculous.

Swearing just adds more emotion to speech. It sounds more aggressive and rude but maybe that's because the person saying it feels aggressive. I wouldn't swear to some person I just met, but I swear all the time with my friends, because we're cool with it, and we know no one's trying to be rude.

Because you sound childish and it has less emotional meaning...

Everybody has their own personal preference, it's just the fact that people are so incapable of using common sense that irritates me. The fact that a government would choose to limit swearing is a problem in on itself.
Obviously, the USA's federal government can't limit swearing because that would violate the First Amendment.

Pretty much what everyone else says. One sounds proper, the other sounds juvenile. Swear words are just a social construction. I watched that video BTW, I like that guy Vsauce. I watched his video about what humans taste like. So interesting *_*
