if you think cigarettes should be banned, then we should just go ahead and ban alcohol, hammers, anything solid or heavy, etc. anything can be harmful. you aren't required to smoke, don't get involved in other people's lives.

Smoking isn't just bad for the person smoking. Smoking is bad for the environment. People around smokers can get sick from second hand smoke. Smoking is bad especially for pregnant woman, because it can give your child birth defects.
Cigarettes are pretty much nothing more than a death stick that does nothing except rake in money for the tobacco companies. Same could be said for Alcohol, but Alcohol isn't inherently bad if consumed in moderation. Hammers are useful as tools to help people in their everyday life. Your argument is invalid.
The only real think you could say in defense of smoking, but has already been said is:
cigarettes have stopped countless people from snapping and killing somebody

It can if you're irresponsible. If you drink here and there at home it won't kill you. Smoking kills, everywhere.

Being on a treadmill won't cancel out the harm smoking does to your lungs. You'll just end up wheezing and out of breath. There's a reason hardly any athletes smoke. Some smokers can't even walk up a flight of stairs without having to stop at the top to catch their breath.
