Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Why are people so obsessed with rep? I mean, I know everyone wants to be teh most most loved member on the forums, but I don't think people understand how the rep system works. No one (excluding forum newbies) cares about the number of reps you have; we're interested in the reasons. Unfortunately, people seem to think that the number matters. Here's the plot twist, though: we can click on that magic "reputation" button and see why you have reps. If you got all you're reps for stupid reasons, you might as well not have any reps. By the way, some of my favorite forum members have low reps. Just sayin'. The reason I bring this up is because some people overreact when -repped and are obsessed with being +repped. A real reputation (as in becoming well known, opposed to having a big number next to the word "reputation") is acquired through intelligent and useful posts. So, chill out, peeps. Having a sizable rep number is good, but earning it is too. Please know that this topic wasn't created directed at any people in particular, but rather as a message to the general group of forum members that I've described.

You're right; the number itself really means nothing. I like to think I contribute to this forum, but most of my rep is because of that silly, little sig... which I'm actually getting very sick of.
I'll admit, a lot of my reps are for bad reasons. I value the ones that say "nice level" an "good idea" over "random rep".

I freak out when I get -reps because somewhat of my OCD. I simply cannot have impurities or errors in anything I do or am involved in.
And, yes, someone could claim that I did that "+rep and I change fact" nonsense to get a higher rep. But know this: would they just give a +rep to ANYONE that was offering a fact? No. They would only give a +rep to someone that has good in them, no matter what the actual rep is for.
Also, I'm a guy that works toward his goals. I LIKE to see 83 reps next to my name. It boosts self-confidence. Not to mention all the newbies think I'm one of the most loved members of the forums (random deja-vu while typing that).
But yes, Supa, you are correct. The rep system is completely worthless because it can be easily manipulated and sounds misleading. But to me, reps show intelligence and character no matter what the reason for the particular rep. And it boosts self-confidence.
[EDIT] You and jakery have the same amount of reps.
[EDIT2] I counted all my reps due to the fact game. 20. I failed to mention, too, that we are not given reps for every good deed we do. In my opinion, we all deserve a lot more reps. Not me of course, I got my reps.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I don't really care for reps. I'm fine with 13. Probably the only thing I actually do is go and get the negatives removed, as all the negatives I've ever gotten (about 6) were fail reasons. I don't freak out when I get a negative. I usually laugh at the other person for freaking out and giving me a negative because of something I did that they didn't like, but was not in anyway rule-breaking or worthy of a negative rep. Usually it's pointing out the multiple massive obvious flaws in ideas.

I also get rid of my stupid -reps. I know I said that one's rep number doesn't matter, but that doesn't mean I like -reps in my list.
@Takoman Yes, they would have given anyone rep for the facts.

I know first-hand that, because Cyclopsicle found out how much rep I was earning and decided to do it himself. Not nearly as much as me.

There is 2 main ways people try to get + reps and it's annoying.
1. Forum Games
2. Give me a + rep and I'll do something good for you/ I might think about it...

The rep system could matter, but only when it becomes a rule violation to misuse the rep system, which would include +repping for forum games, and for any reason other than following the rules, making a good post, informing others, etc.
I hate tall signatures.

I agree. Reps from games are misleading.
This is probably a bad idea, but maybe we could have 'Rep mods' who just look at reps and see if they're legitimate, and delete otherwise. Probably impossible with all the rep going around everyday.

If you look at my rep half of it is just for no reason... Okay, maybe that's exaggerating but one of my +reps just says "yaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
2 times I got a -rep by posion because once I -repped him and another time I +repped him. I asked to have those removed.
EDIT: I'm an Urban Planner! Yay... I guess...

Tons of people advertise "rep for rep" systems in their sigs. Moderation the distribution of rep would be extremely hard to impossible.

Jad + smitty, did you read my post?
I used to do that "give me rep and I will do this" because of deserved reps, imo. If you're an amazing person on the forums and don't have as much rep as you should, is it right to get some rep the cheesy way?
The finished result is having a rep that is a lot more truthful then your rep without the fake rep.

I meant it in a different way.
Bad Example: Give me a rep and I'll make you a smiley.
Good Example: Hey, I'm making sigs free for people for fun and because I like being nice. *Someone gives you +rep for making something awesome and for not asking rep*

Most of the awesome people dont have rep, and thats because there mature, take nou and mihb for an example, i dont know exactly how much rep they have, and im not going to find out, but there are some of the coolest people on forums and in-game. but they only have like 13 - 19 rep. but then theres people who spam the forum games and get tons of rep because there " funny " and immature. and the people with 60+ rep all there rep is mostly spam rep... and yeah.
the only reason i have 51 rep is because i was on the forums forever now, and i used to spam forum games, but then i found it boring and a waste of my time ( seriously, i wasted like 1-2 hours just from forums games ) and now i will only play them once in a while if the forums are inactive.
i cant wait till alex posts here, he always give a good example
( ps:: dont take this the wrong way if you a person i kinda just mentioned, im just saying i have nothing against you. )

It'd work similar to the 'semi-mod' idea, that could only lock and move threads. Moderating rep could be another job of theirs.

"Reputation" on a forum is just as useless as post count. Neither of which give you any sort of advantage over your peers, and I daresay, if I had many hundred or even thousands of reputation, it would actually be a hindrance; people would look at my rep instead of my post. Rep is, in essence, a pair of breasts. Everybody stares in awe at the "omfg H4xx0rD" reputation and ignore the post. I don't need, nor want a pair of huge, distracting breasts. To take this metaphor further, I must ask: have you seen Chewy? I think he has two giant holes in his chest; he should probably get those checked out.

lol at aslai. rep is usless. anyone can troll it for no reason and make look like something else. we need a beter rep system.

At least my rep-boobs are natural. People with the "GIVE ME REP AND I WILL GIVE U REP" have had breast enhancement surgery.

That means that RPGMaster2000 must have... oh... oh God...

Dude, tell your boobs to stop staring at my eyes. o_0
Oh, and I disabled my breasts.
Next April Fools' day Cyclone should change the word "reputation" to "breast size". On second thought, people would probably just -rep each other like crazy.
