Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

This is partly aimed at MRBOOGAWESOME, and partly aimed at people who totally abuse the rep system.

MBA has, what? 84 reps? I haven't counted, and I don't plan to, but I'd gander to say only 20 of those reps are legitimate. Don't you think that's a tiny bit misleading to new people? He looks like a god, as it is now, when actually I don't see anything good about him at all.

If you can't use the rep system right, why have is enabled?

(And I only got 20 reps from the sig-fact junk, it's not like I made a habit of it)

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Re: Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

Meh, let him be. It's just rep. But I see how it could be misleading to newbies. It'd be unfair just to disable his rep, so we could just delete the rep-for-rep reps. But if we did that, it'd be unfair not to delete everyone's invalid rep. Besides, it's not a big deal, and having a reputation number is just for fun.

And now I will be going to sleep shortly. And since I assume you're probably wondering what Supadorf is doing on the forums past 1 in the morning, I was watching SNL, not lurking on the interweb.

I really don't think this warrants the disabling of his reputation, unless it simply comes to all-out abuse (friends/himself making tons of multi-accounts just to rep, or something similar).

Then you might as well delete all Chewy's -reps.
BTW, who says there is a right system to use the reputation. If you think a valid reason to give +rep if you received +rep too, that's your call isn't it?

Maybe you value rep too much. Personally I don't really care. We all know he got his rep from other rep hungry noobs, so it's all good. Just ignore him, we all know who actually deserved the rep and have useful posts //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Re: Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

@SUPADORF+NOU: I look at the reputation as, well, reputation. MBA, does not have very much reputation imo. Yes, in our mind we all have an opinion about MBA and how much reputation he really has; but what about new forum-goers? "Oh look! MBA has 84 reps, I should ask HIM about advice to my level!", when actually the new forum-goer should be asking MIHB or someone else with a lower reputation that really isn't a bad person.

Point is, reputation can be easily misunderstood, so it should be dealt with if misused.

RURIGOK: What's the difference between him getting reps this way, or making another account and giving himself reps? It should be against the rules to ask for rep, just like it's against the rules to ask for chat or beta accounts in your signature.

Actually, now that I think about it, this is like a disease. I forgot that HE +reps people TOO. So, for every worthless rep he has, another forum-goer has a worthless rep as well. What if this becomes a trend? Congratulations! You've officially killed all use of reputation!

EDJ: Chewy's entire history with reputation is a joke. It would be different if it was +reps, but it's not. If he had 655 +reps it would make him out to someone he is definitely not, and then I would have a problem with it.

The rules on how to use rep may not be set-in-stone, but I'm certain that most of us can come to the agreement that getting +reps only because you're promised something completely non-forum, non-ee related is NOT how the rep system works. But, I do understand your point, there no rules for the rep, which should be changed.

People ask advice based on rep? O_o

Re: Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

I think there needs to be a rule against abusing the rep system in this way. Anyone abusing the rep system gets .25 or .5 warning, since it's not a major offense.

You two should have a conversation through -repping.

Tell me if you understood that.

Well, back on topic, I think it's okay. Or maybe something in the rules section that says like "Help" and there it tells you that if you click the "Reputation" button it tells you the reasons. So then the newbies would know it and they would click and know.

Psh, who reads the rules?

Legitimate question. Who read the rules thoroughly when they signed up?

Well, we have two options for that.

1) We do something so people actually read the rules.
2) We put what I said on other place, not in the rules.

I think 2 would work better, but 1 would help the forums overall.

Oh definetly. I also plan to -rep people who exchange reps with him, it's a valid reason because that's not how it works.

About option one, I suggested a small question-answer quiz at the bottom of the rules, but it was ignored.

EXAMPLE:

Q1: How long is a ban if you have 4 warnings?
A1: (Whatever)
A2: (Whatever)
A3: (Whatever)
A4: (Whatever)

Q2: Is it allowed to tell people you're doing something illegal?
A1: Yes.
A2: No.
A3: I'm not sure.

And if you get 1 answer wrong you are told to read the rules and you are provided with a different set of questions.

Re: Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

What about if we had rep-mods? We give about ten responsible forum members the ability to remove invalid rep. There could be a report button within someone's reputation. Members could report reps that they didn't feel were valid. This system would be much more convenient than our current rep removal system, which is just the trolled rep topic that Different is in charge of, and it would also allow members to remove invalid +reps. Unfortunately, this idea is completely unrealistic because this would take forever to code...

In the end it's the person who reps the person asking for rep that is at fault. No one is forcing anyone to rep anyone.

Re: Should we disable Mrboogawesome's reps?

So, in a court case where someone did drugs because they were promised $100,000,000, the drug-doer is the only one responsible?
