Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Okay, for the final time: Post Count is pointless, it's just to count how many posts you have posted. It does not effect/affect anything except your rank.

Come on guys.

Re: How to Pick a Mod

High post count? Congrats, you post a lot. No one cares.
I agree. It should be obvious that post count has nothing to do with personality, except maybe people find a need to post in every thread they click on.
If you're going to post, make sure it's a good one. Otherwise, people like me would see that you wasted 10 seconds of your life on a semi-useless post.

So you're saying someone with 2 posts can become a moderator?

It does matter, to an extent.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Re: How to Pick a Mod

It gives people a chance to evaluate you.   You can't tell if someone with 29 posts is worthy of being a moderator, but 2900?   Definitely obvious by that point.

Meh. To an EXTENT. After about 100 posts or so, post counts become irrelevant.

I think our fine admins can handle if we need mods or not, I think this community is mod hungry at the moment.

Bass became a moderator with only 57 posts, that just shows you that post count doesn't matter.

That is a different situation.
Bass became mod quite early so no-one had many posts, and I'm not sure but I think that het got mod because he was a judge for the New years contest, same as MIHB

We're just bored. With EE as well as the forums.

I presume this is why everyone was so happy after that raid.

Yes, the forums are definitely dying now. We need something new.

I'm pretty sure I said this earlier in this thread.

Also, about post counts and moderating, I recall cyclone saying that if someone asked to be a mod and that they were a mod on a pretty big forum or something, he'd probably consider them, no matter how many posts they have.

And I became a mod on two different forums just for knowing the creator and for having one post. They're small forums, though, so it doesn't really matter.
Although, Ruri became a mod because he knew Cyclone prior to the forums iirc.

Re: How to Pick a Mod

we should just have the mods pick some possible mods and let the users decide which of those should be mods. we could have twipply, takoman, and chimi as examples. everyone gets to vote on which one of them could be a mod.

^Right.   I say, each mod and admin picks one person, and we vote for two of them to become mods, while moving two mods to admin status.

Or maybe we can do it like we do it here in the US and have an electoral college.   Certain groups of people are assigned to an elector, the people vote, the elector sees the votes, then the elector votes.   There should be 13 electors, 13 groups of people, a little over 300 people per elector/group.

Well, I only see 966 people on the forum with 10 or more posts, and are most likely to be the only active people out of the 4216 accounts on the forum.

Okay, then about 77 people per elector.   Also gotta figure, most people won't vote.

Re: How to Pick a Mod

There's a difference between the internet and real life.
First of all, you can't spam links in real life, or inappropriate content. Secondly, we're not governing several million people. Thirdly, our rules are loose. You can't murder anyone on the forums, you can't commit serious crimes other than perhaps giving out people's personal info and spreading child inappropriate content. How about we stop comparing a forum with 4,000 people to a nation with 300,000,000 people. I'm pretty sure that this forum has ages 9-35ish, with the majority population probably being 9-13.

You can't apply government to forums. You can't put people in jail, you can't apply physical force to people.
In a forum, it's pretty much an oligarchy. We can't have a forum be a democracy, because in the end it'll be an Oligarchy no matter what you try to do. Leave the decision making to the Moderators. They probably know what's best for this forum.

I still like the idea of a true democracy... The people vote for who they want as a mod and the person with the most votes becomes a mod... :/

or we could do it the Canadian way //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/cool

We have 4 selected forum members, (chosen by the mods and admins) that are responsible, trustworthy, and of course, active. and again, post count has nothing to do with it....

Those 4 selected members would form "parties" and they would go and tell everyone why they should become a mod, and why they are qualified for the job. Then, after a month or so, we would have a day for voting and the other members get to vote for the one who they want as a mod. D55 can make it so that a user can only vote once, as well for the IP address of that user. (he did it on the fail forums)

Then the mods will announce who has won the election, and that person gets moderator status. (and the person who won might have a virtual party as well... //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/wink )

Re: How to Pick a Mod

That's pretty much how it works here, except with an electoral college.

And @Zoey, we've all heard the Oligarchy thing a million times.   I think we should just try some form of democracy ONCE.

Well, okay, let's see, the president gets four years per term, two terms.
Cyclone created these forums, he pretty much deserves to be the admin, you know.
And, okay, yeah, sure, let's have a bunch of 10 year olds vote for whoever they like the most.
Just to oblige you with a 'democracy', the admins will make the winner a mod.
I'm pretty sure all hell will break loose, but since you think it's a good idea, yeah, sure, why not? Let's just destroy the forums just so we can say that we tried to apply government to a forum, after all, who cares about what the people who actually know a thing or two, let's have the grand majority decide what's 'best'.

How about we only fix the things that need fixed? There's no point in getting a new lightbulb when the one you have works perfectly fine.

@Panic: I think the people involved deserve to have a say.   Look back in history.   Have dictatorships ever lasted?

Re: How to Pick a Mod

Yes, they deserve to have a say, that's the whole point of a forum, but it changes nothing. You could complain about every politician ever and nothing will change.
I've talked to cyclone several times about mods and such, and trust me, it's probably better than cyclone doesn't listen to me. The same applies to just about everyone else on the forums.

edit: Examples or gtfo.
