Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Changing the forum background is purely an aesthetic update, and has no real improvement on the forum's use.
Doing so will change the background, for example, from this:
to this:
Background, if image is not large enough, will either do 3 things;
-Create a black border around the image
-Scale the image both horizontally and vertically (e.g. an 800 x 800 image scales to 1008 x 644 since that's the forum's background resolution for me)
-Scale the image either horizontally or vertically so the image fills up the entire screen without squashing (e.g. a 800 x 800 image scales to 1008 x 1008, but of course the top/bottom of the image can't be seen)
The user can choose of these three options.
You'll be able to change the background in the "Personality" tab of the profile menu.
Any questions?
P.S. Of course the second image isn't going to be the final product. It's nothing more than a gist of what this topic discusses.
P.S.S. The second image was made in GIMP, so sorry if I've left out a few forum features in it which I didn't notice.
P.S.S.S. The full 1024 x 768 background used in the edited image can be found here. It was created by a guy named WinDEU.

Having a custom forum image is a good idea, but requires a larger image(+/- 1800x1800), that is very hard to find. But i really agree with this idea.
P.S. I dont know if you discuss about having a custom image or needs larger smiley, if you want,i can delete this post.

I don't like this idea. It's hard to make a forum look nice when all your users are seeing something different. And white text with a black outline, contrary to popular belief, is not readable on any background, as well as being a little difficult to pull off without images or blurry CSS shadows.

I think it'd be better if the background was changed to something else different for the whole forum. The old background is a bit bland for me- no doubt it clearly represents what these forums were made for, but after seeing the same old for a year-plus...I'd like a change of background.

For people who agree: Change the HTML of the site by right clicking the background > Inspect Element > Change HTML by putting in a different background. This will let you see it differently from us, but it's not permanet

Maybe you can add new type of backgrounds for we choose adding options in profile.

Throw some backgrounds at me and if everyone likes them like them we will choose a new one.

The tachyonic background is cool!

I'm sorry again but no.
- It's tacky and doesn't look professional. The current background was made by a professional and looks like it.
- It's distracting from the actual forum content. The colors are brighter than the forum, making it stand out a lot.
- It's not related to the forums. Having an unrelated image on a fan forum doesn't look very professional.
- White text is unreadable on it. He suggested a black outline on white text, but it's a little difficult to pull off if the outline is larger than 1px. It'll either get blurry or it won't be text. White text with a black outline isn't readable on every background, believe it or not, and a 1px border is the least readable of all black-outlined white text.

So,can you make atleast more ones, and add option select background.

perhaps you can make it so that it repeats? im not sure how forumify works, but i did it on another forum. or i can make a version that "loops" perfect if anyone wants me to.

What would be the point of that? It'd still look bad. Like I said, it's hard to make the forum look move when nobody is seeing the same thing.

It was done very, very quickly in GIMP. It wasn't meant to be a prime example, but rather an idea of what I'm on about.

Guys, you can just change the HTML of the site. Look at the picture. Right click the background, and press Inspect Element. Then look at the picture. If it's not the same, your browser is old.

Btw, this only works on Google Chrome, but should be good information if you want a different forum background

That works on opera (Actually I don't think the latest version has Opera Dragonfly, but the latest version sucks anyway. Downgrade to 12.16). But on both browsers, the changes will disappear the second you leave the page.

if u want to change the background, look up stylish. u can change the code permanently that way, but u need basic html knowledge

You'd need CSS knowledge. The background here is set with CSS.
On opera, you can download this extension and, while you're on this site, click the button and add this code to the text box:
body {background: #000000 url("http://i.imgur.com/ppDIf.jpg") no-repeat fixed 50%;}
If you replace the url in that code, it'll replace the background image. Remember to leave the quotes intact.
