Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Derailed threads

Time and time again my topics are derailed into a river (sometimes by mods themselves...), and left to die, locked just because a few people got upset.
What is with this forum and being terrible at sticking to a topic?

inb4 flame war
edit: probably stuff gets derailed because there is less then 20 people here so the stuff being discussed here really doesnt matter to much people, so stuff gets derailed.

Because we hate you.
Now how about that sports game last night?

Which of your topics are you talking about?

I believe this has something to do with his topic "A very cool website"

Re: Derailed threads

I was thinking about that, but I didn't see it being derailed by mods. Just being locked.

It was something in general discussion. Let me find it...

Ah yes, it was my missing in action topic.

Fdoou I know exactly how you feel, though I don't think it's unlike most real conversation. Usually in the discussion of the OP someone might mention something which reminds them of something else, and then someone else will comment on that 'something else' and that's how it all begins.
-
I don't think derailed threads are bad though. Personally I don't mind alternate discussion as long as it's within the context of prior discussion. If posts are completely off-topic then it's really irritating.
-
Also, since this topic reminds me of the many complaint topics I make, I'd like to complain about duplicated threads. There is no reason to be 4 of the same thread, like Takomans language thread. It's utterly ludicrous how Takoman was just trying to do something for means of education, and then 3 people parodied him (most likely by using google translate), just for the sake of taking advantage of a rarely known, and rarely used, rule. It's also stupid how people are making multiple competition topics just because one is dying after the other. IMO if the best active players cannot make and follow through on an EE contest, I don't see how anyone else expects to.

I do find the language topics irritating but I refrain from locking or otherwise interfering because people are well within their right to open the threads as they breach no rules.

The same applies to the competition threads and the game threads.

Re: Derailed threads

I only made my hieroglyphics topic because of how everyone was jumping on that bandwagon of taking advantage of a technicality in the rule system.   It was meant to be a parody.
Also, the only reason the contest have failed because 1. The forums went down 2. GKA was probably one of the worst people to be incharge of a contest to begin with 3. Creature had no idea what he was doing.

I do find it ridiculous when someone makes a topic, and everyone else tries to turn it into a discussion that the topic was never meant to be, or post the same topic multiple times (like the foreign language ones).   People need to learn to contribute to meaningful discussion and not make things about what they want to talk about, or make an identical topic because they feel they should be the OP.
I am fine with parody topics as long as they have a purpose and are pointing out something ridiculous, however.

Re: Derailed threads

I think derailing threads is annoying from the point of a view of the OP. Though sometimes you might be more interested in the subject of a reply than the first post, so you'll want to reply to them. But all you can do is make a new topic about that subject, whereas you could just reply to an interesting post you see. So this creates a problem.

The thing is though, if you talk about other things that are not the main subject of the topic, it's not allowed.

Well... you know what they say... #YOLO... if you can't go off topic on the forums, where can you go off topic at?

Re: Derailed threads

What if the OP is about random topics? It's hard to derail that unless you focus on one subject.

Fdoou I don't know why you're complaining about this, seeming you were banned? You should be happy you can make a post that can be derailed...

SERIOUSLY valid.

Yeah, this needed to stop before it happened. Don't continue it.
