Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

You're suddenly someone else, without any indication of what your name was before. This make it hard for people to identify you because they are used to your old username and may not recognise you anymore. So I don't see what you mean by 'But it is'.
I use this name for 8 months, who's active know who i am by far, this is being a consistent identity. If without formerly nobody gets confused, then there's no use.
I'm not talking about a person who has used 'Formerly:' for 8 months. I'm talking about a person who changes their name and never has a 'Formerly:'.
I'm talking about removing formerly for who has changed name long time ago and is already been known.
This is a false statement.

Sometimes, the old username is even better than the new one (especially ILoveBacon), and feels really awkward going by their new name.
Why do you prefer Patience is Key? D :

I guess that's ok then. I thought you wanted to change the system, rather than request a specific thing.

PiK is in the past. I left the forums and game for 10 months and when I came back as ILB I was a new person (or I would at least like to think I am). Please don't associate me and PiK as he is a scar of my past.I would like my "Formerly:" to go because nobody liked PiK and I wanted to get a fresh start. A username change to one I more commonly go around the internet by was my best way to do this. It makes me sad that people feel that me and PiK are the same. : (
Could a mod get rid of it, please?
I know this is more of a personal value, but while I have changed my name for a similar reason to your own, aside from the statements Merideth made in why your title will not be changed, I also believe it's important to acknowledge your past self so you can improve your future self.

I'd rather douse all evidence of my past self in gasoline and light it on fire but maybe that's just me.
Although seeing the way Bimps (and many, many others) react to their old posts I doubt it. You should try blackmailing people with their old posts. It's wholesome fun for the whole family.

I get where you're coming from, but if you wanted a fresh start then why come back with your old account at all? A new account is the best way to run away from a past account.

It is kind of hard saying this without sounding insulting, but I think a rather meaningful phrase ("Patience is Key") is better than a phrase specifying a food you like. Call me a hypocrite by having my username be Number1KirbyFan, but at least it worked well with being a phrase and such.

Throughout my times, people have always known by Number1KirbyFan, N1KF, or any other spelling of it. I never let go of this name. While I did lots of cringe-worthy things in the past, I am not giving up who I am for it. I think of my username like my real name, and the initials "N1KF" like a nickname. People should know who you are by how you currently act, not by what your name is. If anybody judges you for what you did a few years ago, just tell them that you were much different, and that you would never do the same thing in modern day.

This is exactly why I changed my name, not because everyone else was doing it........
......
But because of some deep sentimental reason that is definitely true.

I think patience was a good thing too. Also i love people who follow trends.
To get on-topic:
maybe the formerly could made a bit smaller or be next to the Posts: 200000 thingy?

The Formerly: thing is just a custom title, like your "Master Developer". Moving it probably isn't a good idea. Maybe we could add a new field where we put former usernames that adds a tooltip with the Formerly: stuff to the person's username. I did something similar on the Fail Forums once with avatars.

I do not wish to encourage people to continually change their username. It becomes a burden for everyone involved.

But its a trend! How can one person stand in the way of conformity?

@Atilla
Fair enough, I guess.

You've reached the peak of fulfillment, my friend.
And yeah, old posts are definitely awful, but changing your name doesn't make those go away....?? You're not fooling anyone lol
