Staircase

I'd like to attempt to make a staircase level that is actually fun for EE veterans to play. Do you think it's possible?

You could try by making gaps in the stairs and putting gravity arrows all over the place. Something to keep people from just holding the space bar the entire time.

You could make it a fakeout staircase level where they looked like staircases, but were actually minigames within the area not occupied by the stairs and have the puzzles being to get from the bottom to the top of the stairs without actually climbing the stairs. Maybe even have a few of them require hitting the keys to switch blocks and gates to get by. That might be playable. Unless you point it out in the level name though I'd take one look at the map and quit the level. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Well, I want to try for a legit staircase level that is somehow fun. This is my first and possibly last prototype. Took me 15 minutes. It's not a saved world so don't wait to try it out.

In case you missed it:

The concept is that it's not "winner gets free pass," but "winner must prove that they don't suck before heading to next section." Hence, the gate block portion that must be finished in 5 seconds:

And the green section is tougher...

And the blue section is even tougher...

...with an extended "zomg hurry, winner!" section:

...and a leap of faith at the end

And that's it. Play it and be the judge. If you can see this evolving, I'll make a dedicated saved world. If it's just another staircase level with only a slight twist, the experiment ends here.

Yeah... funny thing about EE...

I thought I had an extra saved world for this, but I don't (I'm not willing to part with Metroid or Silent Hill). I'll be slowly buying into the 4000 needed for a 200x200 room, and then this will begin.

Remember that 'Best of EE' thing that Deeo made a while back? he had like 5 versions of things like that, without keys placed like that. There was a section at the end that had people who would do little minichallenges to hit the keys. there were two alternating colors and blue was only used when someone in the first section won, making all the people who hit the keys switch places with all the people who had to try and win, while the winner got a crown. It was fairly nice.

I'd like to see this world. I don't suppose it was a saved level, or that there are screenshots available?

Thanks to everyone who offered to host my concept in their account; the problem is I wouldn't have save/load control at all times.

Anyway, I'm at 2150/4000, more than twice what I had a week ago, and I plan to pick up the pace. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Looks nice so far. I didn't get to finish it because I found magic at the end of the green gate part, then I died and was too lazy to redo.
