EX Crew - New Official Thread

Latest News (10/19/2011): With most of the bugs fixed, the EX Crew has decided to kick things off by entering the Halloween contest. The idea we have for the map will assuredly be innovative and incredibly fun, but it will also be kept secret for as long as possible until it is complete. Assuming nothing changes with the falling out we had over the judging, you can expect a new Halloween themed EX Crew map by 10/31.

The member list has been revamped with only the truly active members listed, and with a new category created for those new members who are inactive but did not contribute anything to a currently released map. In a shocking development, MFL, one of the greatest EX Crew members, has returned to active status.

Lastly, you likely have noticed many of our maps are getting improvements with backgrounds and other minor tweaks to fix any broken challenges. Odyssey, Shift, and Bootysnatch have all received some tweaks, and we plan to update Anniversary and Are You A God soon, perhaps after the contest. We will clean up the links section once we have made more progress with the updates and tweaks.

Older News (9/05/2011): It appears that the EX Crew will remain on hiatus for much longer than originally expected, partially due to the physics still having some bugs that need to be fixed, and also due to a general lack of time among the majority of members. It's difficult to say when the EX Crew will start making maps again, but it could be anywhere from weeks to months from now.

The good news I have come back from a week long trip, and after assessing who is still committed to EX Crew I will do what I can to have the bugs fixed so we can start making maps. I will update the active member list soon and provide more details about future plans when I have that information.

Background: The EX Crew was originally founded by MIHB, MFL, and mustang back in early July 2010. We've had many members come and go since then, but the adherence to quality and innovation remains. We strive to provide challenging yet fun maps based on interesting concepts, so while the next map may take much time to build, it's worth the wait. Maps: All of our maps feature the EX Crew logo, but the true distinguishing feature of our maps is the integration between intricate artistry and innovative level design. You can also check the host name if you are unsure of the authenticity of an EX Crew map.

We have developed several brands for our maps, which include:

EX Crew - Our classic brand consists of balanced adventure platformers which can be a bit difficult.
EX Pro - These are extremely challenging platformers which focus on innovation and novelty.
EX Lite - Lite maps can be either shorter, easier, or just based on a really fun concept.
EX Crue - Expect humor and jokes in the Crue maps, which are not intended to be serious platformers.

Interaction: We communicate primarily via a private IRC channel, and since the introduction of in-game chat we no longer support our tinychat channel.

We rarely seek out new members, and the process of selection is subject to the whims of the heads. Creative collaboration demands both exceptional talent and exacting judgment from the participants, and as such, this is what we look for in possible collaborators.

Hey !

Here's my "Nota Bene" post !
I'll try to detail here what I tried to achieve with our last levels and give my thoughts about the levels.
I'll also try to add making-off screenies of the art, and maybe videos of the art design ( Like Bee did with the ducks ).

EX Crew : The vault !

Thoughts and comments :

The level is basically a vault with a lockbox to open it.
The vault design was mostly inspired from this picture :

Since players are in the lockbox, we used a lot crowns and keys for the art.
The background was made by Scythe and MIHB, and really is impressive. I can't see if there is any pattern on this background.
I would have added more bolts, but it looked already nice and I didn't wanted to do any "damage" to the art.

Everything else was made by Nou and me, and was pretty fun to do.
Anyway, this level has no complicated art, so I don't have a lot to say about it.

Reserved for crowns.

Latest News (5/14/2011): A preview for our upcoming map, The Vault (formerly called Lockbox), has been posted under the map previews header. We hope to release it within 24 hours for everyone's enjoyment. The released map list will be updated later with pictures and links as time permits. We've also added an older news header which will contain a few of the previous updates.

Latest News (5/14/2011): The Vault has been released for everyone's enjoyment. You can find more information about the map including the links by going to the thread HERE. It's a bit more difficult than Light Speed, so be prepared for a challenge especially during the later stages. The released map list has also been updated to reflect the new map.

The Hell map will hopefully be released by next weekend, depending on the amount of work we are able to get done over the next few days. A more detailed preview including an image of part of the map will be released once the map is close to completion.

Also, there's been speculation that herty was "kicked out" of the EX Crew, which is not true. There was a misunderstanding on our part regarding his commitment, and once that was clarified we corrected our member list.
