Looks like they might extend it after all, or maybe its just the Christmas level pack that they're extending.

I, as well, got beta JUST in time. Christmas day, around 8PM, I believe. I saw the gambit thing that said 'gems may take up to 48 hours to appear' or something, and thought that applied to paypal too. I was scared, but they came instantly. Yay!

EDIT: well, not quite scared, but..... a bit worried, I suppose.
