Images can and have been used to de-anon people. So they're not allowed. Within anon topics the forums act as if you had the "Show images in posts." box unticked in your profile. They show up like in this post, as "<image - 36ZnJT2.png>"

Step 1: Post image in anon topic
Step 2: Write down the IP address and times of everyone who loads that image.
Step 3: When someone makes a new post, they'll be redirected to the topic view and they'll load the image again.
Step 3a: So just wait until a load time matches up with a post time, and you'll have the IP address of the poster.

nah only used it to deanonymize forum spammers for giggles not logging IPs anymore
but yeah basically the technique different55 listed worked pretty well
could probably safely whitelist imgur though for anon topics more convenient

Also I wouldn't worry too much about people logging your IP, most of them change every day or so anyway, so it's only really of use when they first get it.
