John agreed when he made an account? Also who cares if emalton paid for the change, he’s the owner of the game ffs. Yea taking the username of someone else with no permission isn’t nice. But when the original owner of the username was inactive for a long period it’s not that big of a deal.

Jawa stated clearly on Discord that his main gripe with this isn't about taking from an account, but rather the hypocrisy involved. i agree that this is hypocritical, but it's also being blown way out of proportion.

Jawa you should change the title of the thread to "Emalton being a hypocrite," since nobody really cares that he took from an inactive account (and has said he's willing to give the name back to the account owner)

right. when they updated the terms at some point, any un-logged-in accounts would request that again.

It's hard to tell when the real john actually logged in last but we could probably assume it wasn't since that "four months" thing was thrown in. Then again, I'm not sure when that came about and don't really care.

Let's be honest, is john really going to come back to EE? I really doubt it. This isn't even the first time people have taken over old usernames. I mentioned in Discord that staff shouldn't keep changing their usernames. It adds a lot of confusion, it's almost like adding a new member to the staff (especially when you change your name from emalton to john, no one's going to make that connection.

My issue is the hypocrisy. When I was an admin, my player object was modified to give me a faster energy regeneration (1 second instead of 90). It's been that way for years. Emalton said it was admin abuse, because the database was modified for my personal benefit. Well, he did just that.

Well that is a lot worse than just changing a name...

Also you could argue that a different name doesn't benefit you in any way, so if Emalton meant benefit as in 'give an advantage' then it wasn't hypocritical at all

It’s annoying when players - especially mods - change their usernames. First Technowolf and now Emalton...

Other than that, this isn’t worth any drama. If the guy comes back, give him a name change coupon and some gems or his name back.

John modified the database for a reason that was already listed in the game as allowed. Technically, anyone could request to have the database modified for that reason. I get it many people will me exempt to that if their name held anything in the community, but that is why it is at the discretion of the mods.
