A few years ago I wrote this story especially for you, the ee community. It was originally going to have 10+ chapters. It is unfinished, and probly never will be, but i thought you all might enjoy it anyways.
Eugene Krabs
Mr Krabs woke up and turned on the radio on his nightstand. It was the oldies station, it was playing a song he remembered from the good old days. He opened his crusty eyes and rolled out of his bed. He groaned with pain in his joints. After walking slowly down the stairs, he found his daughter, Pearl, who had made breakfast for him.
“Good morning, Daddy!” She gave him a kiss. “Open up, it's time for the pill!” She pulled out a giant pill.
“Oh, barnacles! I hate the pill.” Mr Krabs reluctantly swallowed the pill. “Pearl, do you think I’m old?”
“Well, of course I do! But that's ok. Daddies are supposed to be old. Maybe if you got a job you would have more energy.”
1 HOUR LATER
Mr Krabs headed out to look for a job. Mr Krabs loved one thing above all else, and that was money. “Make money…” He thought. “What if I ACTUALLY made money.” Mr Krabs went to the Bikini Bottom Mint. He spoke to the fish in charge.
“I seek employment.”
“What is your name sir?”
“I am Eugene Krabs, and I love money!”
“Do you have any business experience?” He was he could see how eager Mr Krabs was to get to work, but eagerness alone doesn’t cut it.
Mr Krabs didn’t have any, so he disappointedly walked away. He continued to think of places to work, when across the road he saw a sign. “HELP WANTED.” It was The Shell Shack. Mr Krabs kept reading the sign. “POSITION FOR TALKING DOGS ONLY.”
It was a long, unsuccessful day of searching for work. Mr Krabs laid down in his bed, and turned the radio on again. Suddenly an advertisement came on.
“Are you a washed up, old crustacean, looking to reinvigorate your life? Why not start your own business? Come to the Bank of Bikini Bottom Bank. You can get a loan and start making money instantly.”
Mr Krabs was excited by this ad. “A loan? That’s practically giving money away. I know what I’ll do. I’ll start a restaurant.”
The very next day the Krusty Krab was born. Mr Krabs had found an old worn out building to rent, and plenty of ingredients too. The one thing he was missing was employees. Minimum wage was pretty high.
“I could save a fortune by simply allowing the customers to make the food themselves. Haha this is brilliant.”
Mr Krabs had no money to advertise his new business except for a small ad in the Bikini Bottom Times. Still quite a few fish came by, because it was across the street from the Chum Bucket, which had many customers. They made the burgers themselves, and even enjoyed seeing what kind of burger the other fish were making. Mr Krabs was very satisfied, because he had given many fish an equal opportunity to become a chef.
Larry the Lobster
ONE WEEK LATER
Larry the Lobster was making breakfast and reading the Bikini Bottom Times. Larry was a very strong Lobster, and he needed to work out every day and eat lots of protein to keep his body in top physical condition for the weightlifting competition coming up, but when he looked around, he found he didn’t have any food left that fit into his strict dietary needs. He would go to Bargain Mart later that day for groceries, but first he wanted to finish reading the paper. Soon he saw the print ad Mr Krabs posted.
“The Krusty Krab? This place looks gnarly, and they have hamburgers. I will definitely be eating lunch there today.”
Larry carried his weights with him as he walked to the Krusty Krab. It was a bit farther from his home than his usual morning walk, so he was starting to get a bit sweaty when he walked in.
Larry began flipping burgers and flexing his muscles rapidly. He had no regard for any of the other fish in the restaurant. He moved other burgers off the grill to make room for his own. He even was constantly sweating in other fish’s food. Naturally, the customers were disgusted by this. Even when Larry wasn’t ruining the food he often changed recipes in the recipe book to fit his taste, adding ingredients other fish might find unpleasant, such as baby worm eggs. Larry was really scaring away a lot of customers. When Mr Krabs found out he sat Larry down in his office to talk to him.
“LARRY THE LOBSTER WHAT BE THE MEANING OF ALL THIS TOMFOOLERY. YOU’RE SCARING AWAY ALL ME CUSTOMERS.” Mr Krabs was smoking.
Larry listened to Mr Krabs yell at him for half an hour, but he didn’t get the message. He continued to come to the Krusty Krab and act that way he always had. Mr Krabs wanted to ban him, but decided he knew better.
“Larry is my top customer, he buys a lot of hamburgers every time he comes by. Not allowing this to continue would be a huge business blunder. However, maybe I could isolate Larry from the other fish.”
Mr Krabs divided up the kitchen. He added locks to each one with numerical passwords, and let each fish choose their password. Surely this would keep Larry out of other fish’s way.
Larry was constantly trying to break into other kitchens. Most kitchens had easy passwords like “1111” or “1234”. Larry was still ruining fish’s food, but Mr Krabs never did anything about it because, there was a proper way to keep your food safe. Ultimately, it was your fault if Larry got in. You should use a secure password and not tell it to him, but many of the younger fish couldn’t understand this. They posted the kitchen’s password on the door, or told it to fish that fit arbitrary criteria anyone could fill such as having a nice smile. Kids came into these kitchens by the school. They were the most popular ones, and the kids couldn’t tell a quality burger from the others, so when Larry got in (and he almost always did) he scared a whole lot of kids.
Spongebob awoke to the sound of a loud horn, put on fresh underwear, and made breakfast for his pet snail, as he usually did. Then he went to the Krusty Krab. Spongebob loved going to the Krusty Krab. He went there every day, and made burgers for everyone, and he was by far the best cook that ever came to the Krusty Krab.
Spongebob also loved jellyfishing in jellyfish fields. When not at the Krusty Krab, Spongebob would spend most of his time frolicing through the fields. “I’ve caught and named every jellyfish in this field at least once, except for one”. Spongebob dreamed of catching the blue jellyfish, but it was a fast swimmer.
One day Spongebob woke up early while the jellyfish were still sleeping in hopes he could find the blue jellyfish. He put on his lucky underwear, and brought his special net and a half full jar of jellyfish jelly. Spongebob resisted the urge to frolic, instead he crept slowly around searching for the blue jellyfish’s resting place. He had studied how the jellyfish lived for many years, so he had a pretty good idea where it could be.
20 MINUTES OF CREEPING LATER
Spongebob looked into a cave entrance. He saw hundreds of jellyfish resting along the cavern walls. After a quick scan, he noticed the blue jellyfish deep within. Spongebob excitedly creeped through the cave. “At last I will finally catch you.” he thought. After a minute, Spongebob was standing next to the blue jellyfish.
Suddenly, Spongebob heard many buzzing noises. “Oh no, If these jellyfish wake up they aren’t going to be happy I have invaded their home. I better start walking out.” The buzzing escalated rapidly. “Running! Better start running! Running!” All of the jellyfish woke up. “Sprinting! I just gotta keep sprinting!” Spongebob was screaming the whole way out of the cave. He got stung more than 30 times. Spongebob was mortified by this experience.
Again, Spongebob was headed to The Krusty Krab today. When he got there, there was already a huge line of fish waiting for him. “Where were you? The Krusty Krab opened 10 minutes ago! We were about to start making our own burgers, because we thought you weren’t coming!” The fish were getting quite anxious, and hungry.
Mr Krabs heard the commotion, and came out of his office. “Spongebob what’s
going on? These customers depend on you to provide the best quality burger. Not many fish can do what you do.”
“But Mr Krabs, It’s not my job to make sure these fish are fed. I try, but I can’t always make it to the Krusty Krab right when it opens.”
With that said, Spongebob started grilling right away. He hastily held his horseradish. He promptly placed pickles. He truly treasured those tomatoes. He even executed exemplary eggs eventually. Lastly, he lacerated large, leftover lettuces. However, the fish just kept ordering more and more, so when he took a break to make himself a burger he was exhausted. He wanted to make a special burger. He pulled out the jar of jellyfish jelly he had scavenged earlier that day, and slathered it on his burger, and it tasted so good.
“Hey Spongebob what’s that on your burger?” A customer seated next to him asked.
“Oh this? It’s jellyfish jelly. Here try some.”
When the customer tried it, instantly he stood up on the table and started singing to the whole restaurant about just good it was. “Hey all you people. Hey all you people. Hey all you people won’t you listen to me? I just had a sandwich, no ordinary sandwich, a sandwich made with jellyfish jelly! Hey man you’ve got to try this sandwich! It’s no ordinary sandwich! It’s the tastiest sandwich in the sea! Skee ba-da bob-a doob-a dob-a dab-a dee dow, Yeah!”
Spongebob was really glad he liked it, and started offering it as an optional ingredient in his burgers. All the customers wanted to try it, so he was busy making burgers all the way up until closing.
This happened again the next day, a full day of making burgers with little time for a break. Again and again, each day spent doing nothing but making burgers. Mr Krabs even kept the restaurant open late, because he was still making burgers. Spongebob was enjoying it, but Mr Krabs was working him very hard. He missed the days where he would leave in the afternoon, to frolic in jellyfish fields.
LATE ONE NIGHT
Spongebob was dreaming of jellyfish fields. He was frolicing through the fields just like the good old days. He was having a fantastic time. He even caught one. Spongebob walked into a cave to try and ambush another one, but Spongebob saw the blue jellyfish inside. Spongebob remembered what had happened and was triggered. He woke up.
The horn had not gone off. Spongebob tried to go back to sleep. “Wow, Jellyfish Fields sure is amazing. I wish I had time to go back there.” Spongebob couldn’t sleep.
“Meow! Meow!.” It sounded like Gary was in the kitchen.
“Another hungry customer…”. Spongebob went to make Gary’s breakfast. “You can’t sleep either? It’s strange, lately I’ve exhausted myself making burgers, but I’m not tired any more. I just keep thinking about jellyfish fields.
“Meoooooow!”
“Some help? That’s a great idea boy! I know some frogs that are great cooks. I could give them the password to my kitchen and we could work together.”
THE NEXT DAY
Spongebob let some frogs into his kitchen and told them his plan. They all had heard of Spongebob’s burgers and were enthused to work with him. They named this group “Spongebob and the Exemplary Xenopus”. The speed at which Spongebob could make burgers increased immensely with a couple more cooks in the kitchen, and the burgers tasted somehow even better when he had more time for each one. All the fish were fed by early in the afternoon. Spongebob had time to go jellyfishing again.
Mr Krabs was constantly making new additions to the Krusty Krab wherever he saw fit. Most of the time it was just new decorations, but one very important thing he added was a freezer in each kitchen so you could save food for the next day. This was such an important thing that the unlocked kitchen, which didn’t have a freezer in it, was abandoned almost completely.
As Mr Krabs made these changes, he saw the Krusty Krab flourish. Fish were coming in daily to see what’s new, and to sample the large variety of burgers from different cooks. Mr Krabs implemented a menu displaying which burgers sold the most that day. Analysing this menu he was shocked to see Spongebobs burgers were not always at the top. Instead he saw lots of low quality burgers made by little kids, and when he looked around, he noticed most of his clientele actually was little kids. These little kids preferred a plain burger that was easy to chew and digest. They just couldn’t eat Spongebob’s burgers with everything on them. This was a big problem, because new customers would come in, and order the burgers on this menu. They would find these burgers weren’t as delicious as they had hoped and never come back to The Krusty Krab. Mr Krabs never did anything about this. It was important to him that there was a place where every burger got a fair chance to be seen.
Spongebob on the other hand hated this. “It takes a long time to prepare a new burger recipe, and rarely does anyone see it, because it’s on the bottom”. Spongebob devised a plan to get his rightfully deserving burgers to the top more often. He sold burgers to himself at the start of the day. This would immediately ensure his burger was on top. He wouldn’t have to keep doing this throughout the day, because his burgers truly were top notch. With the small advantage he gave himself he gained tons of publicity from the menu, which gave him more sales to stay on top.
Now the little kids thought this was unfair. It certainly did seem like a fraudulent tactic. However, Mr Krabs never minded it. Allowing his star fry cook Spongebob to promote himself never was a problem.
One day Mr Krabs received a call on his shell phone from a number he didn’t recognize. “Hello”.
“Greetings sir, is this Eugene Krabs?” Mr Krabs did not recognize the voice.
“Yes it is, who is this?”
“I am calling on behalf of the Bikini Bottom Mint. We are contacting all of the best businessmen in the area. Would you be interested in a job in investment banking?”
“The Bikini Bottom Mint? It’s been my dream to work there. Is it true that you can make a salary of one million dollars? I’ll be right over.”
Mr Krabs closed The Krusty Krab early that day. One hour later Mr Krabs had got the new job. This job however, left him no time to take care of The Krusty Krab any more. He needed to hire a manager. Patrick Star was the only fish he could find that was interested. Mr. Krabs didn’t think very highly of Patrick. He was worried Patrick would ruin the business. After intense negotiation, Patrick bought the whole business so he would have more time to hang out with Spongebob, who was constantly there.
Patrick Star
At first, Patrick took his new job very seriously. Patrick was a lot like Mr. Krabs in that sense, so nothing really changed. Patrick was also coming up with new ideas frequently, and loved to decorate the restaurant. Sometimes his design choices were a bit strange though. One time he hung up pictures of Hawaiian men all throughout the restaurant. That really got all the kids ready. Another time he made sand replicas of all the furniture, and replaced the real ones with them. The fish didn’t like having sand in their food. The old furniture was quickly brought back.
The fish were confused by his behavior, but they didn’t come to The Krusty Krab for atmosphere; They came for the food. As long as the food was still good they would keep coming back, and it always was thanks to Spongebob. Patrick wasn’t losing customers, but he wasn’t doing anything to bring them in either. Spongebob thought about what The Krusty Krab could be more than Patrick, while Patrick was content with how things were.
A FEW MONTHS LATER
“Hey Patrick, I bet I can blow a bigger bubble than you!” Spongebob exclaimed, and he blew a giant bubble that looked like a pineapple. “Top that!”
“Oh that’s easy, I can blow a bubble twice that size.” Patrick confidently blew a bubble shaped like a knife. The bubble floated over to Spongebob’s and cut it into slices. Then they both popped.
“I see I’m going to have to use my special bubble blowing technique to beat you.”
Spongebob lifted his leg up behind him, spun around for about 1 second, did 3 double takes and a pelvic thrust, stomped his right foot onto the ground after about 3 seconds, spun his torso in a circle around the air, and finally jumped around for about 6 seconds. Then he blew a bubble by screaming.
“Wow Spongebob I’m impressed, that bubble is huge! It’s bigger than Squidward’s house. Uh oh!” They both gaped at the sight of a bubble swallowing Squidward’s house, and lifting it off the ground. It quickly rose very high into the air. They knew if Squidward came home right now he would be furious. Thinking quickly, Spongebob got out a cannon and loaded patrick into it.
“We must pop that bubble!” they both cried out.
“Brace for impact Patrick.”
Patrick flew from the cannon. He crashed through Squidward’s window, and landed in Squidward’s music room. Somehow he made it through the bubble without popping it. Spongebob was beginning to panic. He thought that would pop it for sure. Spongebob prepared the cannon to fire again, but Patrick had a better plan.
“Wow, It’s Squidward clarinet. I’ve always wanted to try playing this. It looks much easier than mayonnaise.” Patrick began to play it, being sure to get slobber on every part of it.
Spongebob heard the beautiful music and stopped to see where it was coming from. At this point he noticed some reverberations in the bubble as if it were going to pop.
“You need to play more like Squidward.” Spongebob shouted to Patrick.
Patrick started playing as loudly as he could. The bubble popped. Squidward’s house landed back on the ground where it belonged.
A FEW DAYS LATER
Patrick was sitting in his office designing new decorations for The Krusty Krab, when suddenly a group of kids barged in crying.
“SPONGEBOB IS CHEATING. HE BUYS BURGERS FROM HIMSELF. OUR BURGERS DON’T STAND A CHANCE.”
Patrick understood this concern. He had no idea how long it had been going on. He didn’t go to Spongebob to find out his side.
“Don’t worry I will address this issue.” Patrick reassured them.
Patrick developed a new and improved menu to replace the old one. Instead of simply amount sold, this menu would show the most liked burgers. Each day, each customer could submit their top 5 burgers of the day, and the next day they would be advertised on the menu. Noone could exploit this system, because each person only gets 5 votes per day.
But this system only lasted a week. The popular burgers were the same each day, because it was believed they were the only ones that even existed. No other burger could compete, because the menu never changed. Spongebob’s burger wasn’t even on this menu. All the burgers were of low quality, and for this reason The Krusty Krab was losing customers fast. Patrick didn’t know what to do, so he reverted back to the old menu. He never came up with another idea to solve the problem.
A MONTH LATER
Patrick was heading to The Krusty Krab when he noticed something strange. A large delivery boat was parked at The Chum Bucket, which was directly across from The Krusty Krab. Patrick decided to get a closer look.
Patrick saw, printed on the side of the truck, a man with a huge belly, a pirate hat, and flower patterns across his shirt. He was holding a bottle of sauce in each hand. The words read “Oahu Condiments, the best sauce in Hawaii”.
Patrick was furious. “THE CHUM BUCKET IS TRYING TO STEAL MY BUSINESS BY ADDING THE BEST FLAVORS. I WON’T STAND FOR THIS. I AM GOING TO ORDER THESE CONDIMENTS FOR THE KRUSTY KRAB.”
Patrick stormed into his office and picked up the phone.
