Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

#IThinkIt's:
Good, however:
The left and right border are not realistic
The tree is more like white then grey (gray?)
To fat for those grey dead trees
Otherwise great, good work!
Is that better? I'm english so I say grey rather than gray plus the game already incorporates a thick tree trunk so I thought if it went with it it shoudl be the same size.

I think second one is good.
First is too much light, and last one is deep dark
Good Job

Yes the second is excellent. However do you remember to have seen quadratic holes in trees anywhere ? Anyway, the hole looks like a black circle (figure), try to make along the hole (around it) like, do you remember in Windows the tabs bottom and right corner (segments) are darkened, and the left and top part are lightened. This makes a 3D effect. For you it will make an effect, like if you actually could go trough the hole.
PS. How to call the side of it?
good idea ill add it

Is this ok? I think i might make the bit on the grey one a bit darker cos it looks a bit strange.

why not just use RGB or HEX instead of getting a crappy windows XP screenshot from the depths of hell knows what, and use 1-pixel wide lines in it to display the desired color
you could just as well find a nice sky photo and point at that one pixel that has the color you want

Here is an example of it. I see what n1kf means, but I don't see quite how to fix it without ruining it

1) i was on ipad
2) i just wanted to show the color difference of the 3d effect
3) why do you always have to comment stuff?
@OP It's more than fine.
Which one is best?
I honestly like them all. They should be morphable. The darker ones can be used for trees that are in the background / a distance away. Very nice graphics!

To avoid "tfw when you see background but get stuck in a block" i'd suggest to posterize (make flatter) the darker one.
So make the darker one with less shades? I shall try

Saturation edits from my own tree brick for EE CM, the first being the original.
