<snip> is usually used when messages are cut. For example, if hummerz5 came and removed the text from a post, it would probably be replaced with <snip>. <snip> isn't programming-related as far as I know.

<snip> can mean various things depending on situation. Moderators snip content that isn't desirable. Forumers pretend to snip because apparently they find some humor in it
