When you have the post screen, the smileys can be chosen from a spoiler-like button like in the game, and there you cans search for smileys/ chose one from all

it's pretty OK but doesn't actually use the images because I don't have the images. just for fun I guess

edit: so the text looks like this which is unfortunate because some negative margin would help in some cases. some, not so much.

I agree. This is why I offered: "unfortunate because some negative margin would help in some cases" -- atm smileys are 16x16 generally, and our images are 26x26. The negative margin of 5 px on every side makes it back to 16x16. That's interesting, but at the same time if we have smileys that /are/ too large on one axis or another they might overlap other smileys, so it would seem we'd be better off having someone spend a length of time cropping all the smileys down and then we throw the margin out

so I guess if you want you can crop all the images for me and I'll plug them in

edit: hey I wonder about taking back what I said

the benefit we have from the weird way images are handled is a baseline. If we mangle the margins, at least the wizard beards and angel halos still don't make things really awkward. That being said, we'd need diff to help us recognize that each smiley is actually a smiley so we get that margin help

otherwise I think our best choice would actually be cropping

how does that look? -2px left/right, -5px top/bottom. They seem a bit downshifted to me but I think that's how they already are

potentially never. script requires some tweaking to allow for actual smiley content and forum admin support

if you wanted, you could use chrome or firefox; then we could ship it as a userscript, though it would be somewhat bulky as it wouldn't just be 1smiley1 but [im.g]http://i.imgur.com/potatourl.png[/im.g]

the two go hand in hand. Right now, they're all images. But, that works out because I can display them as their images AND insert them as [im g] + the image + [/im g]. But, if we integrate with smiley codes, I would need to display with "the image" but then know what the corresponding code was

I guess I could really cheat and do something like "the image URL" + "?smileybit=1smiley1" but that seems weird
