Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Some general guidelines for my music include:
It should express an emotion or feeling well. (if it gives me chills, it counts!)
It shouldn't be too predictable or formulaic. If it keeps repeating the same few chords (especially the four chords of pop) I probably won't like it. Not only does this apply to pop-like structures, but it also applies to D&B/electronic stuff which has a tendency to get repetitive.
The tune should be memorable. If I forget it after listening to a few other songs, it's probably not good enough.
I prefer instrumental, since it's less distracting and puts more emphasis on the actual music. If it does have lyrics, it better not be cliche romantic stuff like 90% of songs.
It shouldn't be physically uncomfortable for my sensitive little ears to listen to. So no screamo, and usually not dubstep.
As far as genres go I sometimes listen to video game or anime soundtracks. I haven't looked that deeply into other genres of music though I really should. If somebody here recommends me some music I will look into it.

Generic music taste right there.
Anyway, i like rock and electronic a lot.
Don't like mainstream pop and rap music (nor fake "multigenre" bands like twenty one pilots etc)
If there are lyrics i like them to be meaningful, so that you search for a deeper meaning in the song while listening to it.
I listen to soul, jazz and classical from time to time too.
Here's some artists:
Gorillaz, Riddarna, Ayo , Jamiroquai, Carpenter Brut, El Huervo, Chromatics, Castanets.

-J-pop, J-rock, vocaloid and anime music are my favourite "genres": Kana Nishino, Supercell, ONE OK ROCK, Scandal
-Anime and VG soundtracks: Key visual arts stuff, Nichijou, Ghibli, Nintendo games
-World/ethno music is fun because it makes you realise there's so much music out there than what we usually listen to.
-The sort of pop rock/punkish sound: Paramore, Green Day, Boys like girls
-Classical period! Mozart is the best

Progressive rock is and has been for a long time my favourite genre. Rush, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Pink Floyd, Oldfield, etc...
Rush definitely holds a high place in my mind due to their always insightful and meaninful lyrics.
Aside from that, I'll listen to anything with the exception of generic country/rap music.
If somebody here recommends me some music I will look into it.
Close to the Edge by Yes - if you like that, look into the aforementioned bands.

I am very offended by your post. You assume I have a generic music taste because of one post. I admit that P!ATD and TOP might be generic but they're good bands/artists. My taste in Muse is also not generic, I like every single one of their songs. I also haven't met anyone else who likes Sabaton and only one other person who likes Trivium. (Not counting relatives) Trivium is a popular-but-not-that-popular metal band.
I haven't even mentioned that I like most video game songs, like the soundtrack for Gauntlet: Dark Legacy and Geometry Dash. There are also a number of songs that I listen to on Youtube and Newgrounds that are only on that site.

Music is subjective. Plus that's the only thing you took from my argument
