Riddarna - Simma Hem
Genre: Alternative/Indie
Published: 2014 (based on youtube)

Overall Score: 7/10

The voice starts off a bit jarring, but it grows on you as the song progresses. Great transition between pool and sea. Overall message of song makes you think. Personally, I believe for him to be a runaway of some sort, running from police, life, or maybe even a single person.

It is evident he has no clue where he is, from the brief flashes of white light, as well as him ending up in a stranger's home, and the stranger chasing after him as he runs. This leads me to believe the protagonist may be on drugs of some kind.

Conclusively, it is a good song, might be good for a few listens.

i understand if you find this rule annoying, but it's so people (including I) can find new music and bands that aren't as famous as TDCC

Tom Tom Club - Genius of Love

Genre: New Wave / Post-punk
Published: 1981

Good sounds and a catchy beat. Atmospheric and bouncy, nice transitions through different melodic sequences. Voices were strange, but in the good sense. Provided well to the whole "acid trip" feel of the song.

Flobots - Journey After (War Fatigues)

Genre: Alternative Hip Hop
Published: 2012

Rapper's flow and tone was a little bit weak, but I would be missing the point if I was criticizing just that. Song has a very well-polished sound to it, background vocals contributed well. Felt like a story throughout, with multiple climaxes and "slow-downs". Lyrics were interesting, rhyme and poetic beat was on-par. It's a alright song, wouldn't go back to it though.

I very much enjoyed this song. Top-notch sampling and sound design, especially for a 19 year old. Very upbeat, transitions were well-done. Apologies for the broad umbrella terms for "Genre", I couldn't quite figure out what the specific type of music was called.

1972? Way ahead of it's time. Staccato beats were a bit messy at some points, but overall was enjoyable. Underrated, for it may seem like an amateur electro piece at first, but know that it was made in 1972. I might be wrong about that, but Wikipedia and Youtube say so otherwise.

Pop Evil - Footsteps (Go Higher)

Genre: Rock

Has a very pop-ish element to it. It may not be pop, but it shares many elements such as choice of lyrics and melody. In my personal opinion, there was nothing special about this song. It was like any other modern song, where the instruments are remnants of selected other musicians, and the lyrical melodies are what makes it different from the others. Not only that, the progression is cliched and lacks that "special" feel. It's just an ABABCB song. Another brick in the wall.

Overall Score: 5/10

Rush - Jacob's Ladder

Genre: Rock
Published: 1980

Good intro. Transitions were well-done, obviously the start of a rock masterpiece. Nice solo as well. The flow into the second part was beautifully done, including the synth. An amazing piece, wasn't focused on lyrics, but used them to their advantage. It gave a sort of introduction to each part. Great music.

Intervals - Sweet Tooth

Thanks for introducing me to this so-called "New Age". Unsure if you're into New Age, or if you're just the type of guy who likes what he hears. Sticking with a point, this is an incredible song! Obviously guitar-oriented, and done very well for such a minimal project. As you stated, it is indeed catchy. Wonderful rhythm too.

Seona Dancing - More to Lose

Genre: New Wave / Synthpop
Published: 1983

Starts off very cheerful, really sets the mood of the piece. The synths come in, and it's almost a blast to 80s. What I don't understand is how Seona Dancing didn't find any success. This song was great, all the instruments were well-balanced and came in at the right moments, besides a small sliver at the end. This song is the quintessential example of an 80s high school dance; colorful, upbeat, and a slightly nasal, dreamy male voice singer. On another note, I'm quite surprised this song is exactly 6 minutes long.

Elizabeth Cotten - I'm going away

Started off very well...until the vocals. I despised her singing voice. She was a great guitar player; it was extremely professional playing, but she is not fit to sing. It would've been good if it were an instrumental, or if someone else sang. Vocals were a big let down.

The Beach Boys - Heroes and Villains

Genre: Progressive Pop / Psychedelic Rock

I should really get into The Beach Boys. This was an amazing song, I cannot comprehend how well, or simply how they managed to fit so many different melodies and tone shifts in a 5 minute song. Truly remarkable. It's just a happy song in general, despite talking about Heroes and Villains. And it doesn't sound much like the late 60s either, reminded me a tiny bit of Jerry Paper, who is a rather modern artist. Or maybe Jerry Paper reminds me of The Beach Boys, but I've never really listened to The Beach Boys, let alone any of their songs.
