Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Trolling

Is trolling ethical? Would you troll a world if you had the power? Would you stop trolls in their tracks, or allow their chaos to continue? Should trolling still be "allowed" by the EE rules, or should it be outlawed?

I only ever see worlds with the title "MAKE ART ALL EDIT" or something get trolled, so it doesn't seem like it's a big important issue.

Re: Trolling

I don't see any point of trolling a world when the owner make the favor to give you edit. You're just being a scrub

Re: Trolling

I don't care if someone decides to draw an abundance of blocks in my world, as long as the world isn't important. I wouldn't do anything about trolls, I say just let people troll all they want in worlds, and not make it against the rules because then everybody would be banned.

Re: Trolling

Do whatever you want, it's pointless to troll, but if you enjoy, do it.

Re: Trolling

i think people shouldnt troll and that if it was possible that they should be warned and ultimately banned for it.

however people can get around bans with alternate ips and accounts so its kind of useless

but i do think there could be additional methods to prevent trolling like the ability to label accounts as trolls ( i guess people could just make their own lists though)
and maybe an undo thing that many people have suggested, similar to a bot someone made where it undos block placements by a specific user.

i dont see how it can be the owner's fault when it is someone else doing the trolling. i have repeatedly heard that you shouldnt give out edit to just anyone, or that you shouldnt make to code worlds. this is not very reasonable though for some users. i find that a lot of people on ee enjoy opening worlds and giving edit to all or many of their friends, where they fly around, etc. many people do not enjoy making levels, but still participate in these. however, it is not possible for new users to do this if they do not have any friends yet. to code worlds i feel are sort of like an alternative to the current friend levels for new users without friends. they are the equivalent, except you give edit to anyone who you dont know is a troll. they are also a great way to make friends. i have made many good friends who i still know from playing and making to code worlds. with this potentially being beneficial to many people, i dont see how it is reasonable to tell people to not make to code worlds.

edit: fixes to be more concise with an actual point

Nothing can stop the trolls. They have in mind they are being funny and great for doing it. That's our world called life, we have different peoples that are a little stupid and can't hear someone for askong "Pls, stop trolling me" (In any ocasion, we understand that it's only in EE that we have trollers).

Actually they should receive a death penalty for trolling, it's child abuse.

it could be possible to stop the trollers by starting a (not ee) campaign of convincing people that to code worlds can be important to the growth of the game and why people should not troll. it may not may not stop all the trolls, but i would think that the result would be better than however the current state of trolling on ee is.

Re: Trolling

I don't find trolling ethical. Wasting your own time just to harm others? Meh.
I, however, think the rules should stay neutral on trolling — that's not something very controllable. It's not entirely the owner's fault if their world gets trolled, but once given edit to someone, they have a right to do anything. Just choose the people you trust to prevent that.

Re: Trolling

I do not think that trolling is ethical, as trolling is deliberately damaging another person(s) work, and so as vandalism is outlawed in our society, trolling is also considered an act of vandalism.

i guess not, regardless of that i say trolling should be allowed

depends on world's content and who is the world owner

you cant stop a troll unless youre world owner. if id be the world owner id obviously kick them, otherwise i wouldnt care

it should be allowed. it's world owner's fault for giving out edit to random people

Re: Trolling

If you don't like trolling, don't react to it; let it happen or kick without a message. Trolling will always happen, if you give away the code then it is to be expected; if you are in a world with a troller, just ignore them - if they ruin what you are doing just rebuild and the troller will go away because they just want a reaction.

Trolling is not ethical and pretty scummy but I don't come across them and when I do I couldn't care less, there's a button in the bottom left which will remove the troller from my screen.

Have you tried this method? Not really sure that it would work.

Re: Trolling

Hands down trolling should be allowed. Trolling is art, and to those that are stingy and don't like trollers/real artists, well don't give out edit then.

Is it art if I scribble on a painting?

Of course it is. How is it not? By putting a block down, you are simply creating a masterpiece.

How is trolling art? Pretty sure people who troll don't think they are creating some sort of masterpiece by destroying others' work. They just do it for fun.

Don't ban trolling in free edit worlds because they are free edit for a reason.

And you can't blame trollers who get edit from world owners for trolling because it's the owners fault for putting their trust in them

Re: Trolling

After reading Capasha's post saying that it's the owner's fault if a world gets trolled, I discussed this in IRC. Multiple people there seem to think the troll is completely innocent. I would have to disagree. For a world to get trolled, it takes the owner's bad judgement of trust, and the troll's bad intentions. Which is worse? From a legalistic standpoint, the troll is worse, since the owner does after all enables the troll to troll. There's also the moral standpoint, being that the troll usually has bad intentions, that of taking away peoples' entertainment for their own. (Why else would they troll?) I personally agree with both—it's the owner's responsibility for the upkeep of the world, which the rules should (and do) support, but trolls are still usually jerks and that shouldn't be ignored by us, the community, if we want to discourage users from being toxic to each other.

Re: Trolling

Obviously it's the owner's fault if they get trolled, they probably did something to provoke the troll. Probably was wearing a provocative title at night too!
