Does Undertale deserve to be the winner of GameFAQs' BEST. GAME. EVER?
The GameFAQs BEST. GAME. EVER. is a contest in which people come in and vote for their favorite game out of two choices. The game that has more votes moves to the next round to compete with another winning game. This continues until two games are left to compete with each other. Undertale was the winner. It defeated Mass Effect 3, Fallout 3, Super Mario World, Pokémon Red/Blue, Super Mario 64, Smash Bros. Melee, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Being serious now, from all this frenzy over Undertale I hear, I think it's mostly just an innovative game concept combined with Tumblr fan-berzerking potential, but not really something you'd just look at and say "WOW 10/10 MASTERPIECE THEY MUST HAVE SPENT YEARS IN THIS".
It's an online poll anyway, and anything can happen in these things.

No, probably not. I was expecting good graphics and some more exciting scenes (I haven't played Undertale, but I saw some previews).

there is no best game ever, even without the point of being subject. in broad terms, undertale isnt liked by everyone. the best game ever would be a game everyone likes and it would be perfect.

I'm thinking this. It's got a large and probably most recent fandom, plus it's the kind of game where'd you see alot of fanart on Tumblr of cute characters and whatever.
tbh, it does have an excellent story, good gameplay and a lot secrets that are gonna reel players in. But it seems it's just because of the recent hype that's brought the game to the top. It's great, but I'm not too sure if it'll stand the test of time and stay near the top like Ocarina of Time.

That's pretty much exactly what I thought when I was playing the game. It's not just good, it's wonderful. I would certainly call it one of the best games out there. The best one I played, for sure.

These things are not mutually inclusive.
Namely, something being a masterpiece does not necessarily imply that years (or any given amount of time) were/was spent on it.
