I was brain storming one day, and i came up with this:

I hope people will expand this idea. that would be awesome.

Well, I don't really think it's much of anything untill we get portals from world to world.

Actually I had this idea before. I was planning to make a level series like this (apart from fade) I won't go into details but it's like your idea.

You could get the same effect if you use a wide world and put spacings between boxes.
Like this:
